Default Fishing in Mexico

Does anyone have any suggestions on where would be the perfect location for a Mexican fishing trip during X-mas vacation . I will be going with my father, mother, and girlfriend. My father and I would like to go someplace where bill fishing would heating up during the winter months, and the girls just want to go somewhere were the water is luke warm. If you have any suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.

Ahoy Mate,
Your best bets are the tows off of Baja (Cabo San Lucas and its neighbor across the bay La Paz). I have never fished there personally but always hear good things about them. My brother fished there for Marlin and Wahoo several years ago. Myself, I highly recommend Acapulco. I fished there in 1986,87,and 89. Just myself and a friend chartered a boat for $60.00 each! Guaranteed sailfish or no pay, Captain supplied beer for us. My buddy was involved in international freight so It didn't cost anything to have my tropheo shipped. It cost me $300 for the taxidermy down there and had to wait almost 2 years for it to clear customs! Now I proudly display it (8'-4" and 120#). Acapulco was a real bargain back then. $800 for round trip air and 2 weeks hotel in old Acapulco (Hotel Caleta). What a view of the sea! First time scuba diving cost me $20.00 and parasailing was $10.00 (all us funds, they like greenbacks). My 2 weeks of everything under the sun ran me $1800 total. I couldn't even go vacation 1 state away on that money for a week! Look into the 3 places I mention and get travel info. Our winter is their perfect summer. In old Acapulco things don't cost as much as the tourist trap in town and you get to mingle with natives. The beach there is called Playa de Caleta. Worth at least a look!

Capttangles those were the days !!! Free beer - cheap everything else. The things I did and the things I should have done!

I love Mexico, except I prefer the Yucatan not the pacific side. The water over there is too cold, especially around the first of the year. I was there in Feb and the fishing was slow, so was the sailing and surfing. It was an off year I guess. We did manage a half a dozen black fins. Nothing wrong with that. And Tequila has gotten real expensive!!! That sucks.

Rfun, Christmas time is not the greatest for bill fishing in Mexico. I think you need to go to further south at that time of the year. Having said that, there will be someone to take you fishing and something to catch just about anywhere or anytime you go to Mexico. The water is warm in Cozumel or Cancun in Dec/Jan. It’s still a groovy place, try to get off the beaten path a little, the people there are great. And it’s a quick two-hour trip from H town. Do you scuba dive? Back in the day we did some great dive/fishing trips in Coz that were waaay too much fun. Check out Playa Del Carmen & points south too.

Maybe...Costa Rica?
