man im a fishing ho... and besides that... I would love to go with someone on their boat for change....really just to met guys and learn some new stuff.... nothing lowly about mono's... i just happen to choose a cat besides the ride.. i love the big cockpit... stop by...the boats in front of my house.. well really my snow bird neighbors house...LOL im in the two story next door.
I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering with the weather around here. Went out Saturday and made it as far as Horn Island. The wind started blasting out of the southwest and eventually became just a west wind. It made for a nasty chop, really put my tabs to the test on the trip in. The wind coupled with a monster falling tide = no fish. To top it all off, all the rain is causing the tree limbs on trailering route home to hang much lower then normal. One of these rain swollen limbs yanked the wire right out of my VHF antenna (there goes $100). As I sit here typing another storm blew in from Gautier. Damn weather......
ti rider.. yea it was pretty much like what you saw all the way out to the Ram Powell... tight nasty west wind and chop...we ran..26-28kts going out and a about 25kts coming back... except the tstm... layed down nice from about 15 miles out....
I'll make it over there one of these days Blue. Seems like since Wally world opened up I don't have much reason to go that far east except to launch the boat..lol!!
I took off a couple of days last week and was greeted with nice flat seas and hot humid weather. I dont' know what you guys are complaining about Didn't go offshore, but got into the bullreds pretty good south of Ship.
I hear the snapper bite is picking up pretty good. Maybe saturday.
becareful catching bullreds in the large schools south of ship/horn....anything 3 miles south is FEDERAL waters and illegal... heard from a friend in DMR that they are gonna start clamping down on the trolling of those large schools out there...
I noticed that they seemed to have no regard for the 3 mile limit. Not to mention little ole me in my 23' boat that they tried to bully around and run over more than once. But they shoot themselves in the foot because they race up on top of a school and run right through them. Then they wonder where the fish went. Cracked me up!!.
Last two times to the shallow fields, caught our limit on red snapper by 12 with a lagniappe of a ling some groupers and mangroves.Tried for trout at curlew and freemason on the way in but no luck.Plenty of skarks and lady fish.
Catching the sows, and lots of 'em, in a 100 feet of water. They are hanging in the upper third of the water column. Caught a nice Warsaw grouper last week, too. First one I have even seen here.
Was trying to get out tomorrow (Friday), but it won't happen. Sunday should be a go. Hey Blue, how is the action been at VK 817?? Any Tuna??
Hey Snapper,
Where have you been getting on the snapper, if you don't mind sharing some info.? Probably going saturday, was thinking of heading south towards the horseshoe area.
Been trying to convince Blue break off the tuna and head out snapper fishing with me. I think he just might go!
Heading out in the really wee hrs to pop some big Snapper and some cobia. Weather should be choice. Yesterday was absolutley perfect. Know some guys that did real well.
bluefin - any of the rigs in 100 to 150 feet of water are producing. I made a horseshoe run about 6 weeks ago and could not find ANY snapper. That's alot of fuel to come up empty on the sows. They may be hitting out there now, but I have not heard anyone talking about it. I will be hopping around the rigs starting 40 miles SE of Biloxi (Viosca Knoll, but off the top of my head I cannot recall the block numbers). There are some good fish on the bottom, but the hogs are thick in the upper third of the water column.... The snapper are also holding in shallower water, but you have to wade through alot of sharks. If you run to horseshoe tomorrow, let us know how you do. I will post Mon or Tues, and try to digitize some pics for posting as well (hell, the jpeg file weighs 11 lbs
Bluemarlin,
Thanks for the info. Won't be going that long tomorrow, but am planning to get there in a couple of weeks.
Big Al,
thanks for the info. I might try that way next weekend if I get out. Fished today north of the horseshoes and did okay, not great. 1 nice 20# red snapper, couple lanes, a dog snapper and a gag.
I have never seen the bite completely shut down like it was. We started in 100 feet of water, and worked our way just south of Gus, and then back in, with NO snapper. Caught one small unit and that was it. Lots of big kings and cuda's and AJ's and everything else, but NO snapper. Damn. Wierd, very weird. Anyone have any luck on Sunday with the Snapper or grouper??
Maybe I should have stayed on the porch with you Blue!
