It was rough yesterday! However, we did make it to our favorite AJ rig and caught several, only keeping one each. We introduced my friend's 14 year old son to reef donkeys and he had a blast. Several nice snapper found our hooks, too. Lots of small patches of grass 60 miles out. We didn't make it to blue water though but there is always next time.
Looks like today is shaping up pretty good as well. Wish I wasn't stuck at work! Hopefully it will hold up through tomorrow at least, but they are calling for 4' building to 5. Must be caused by TS Claudette. Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow!!
Headed southeast Saturday. Turned out to be a beautiful day, little wind, calm seas. Caught several bonita and amberjack. Couldn't find any keeper snapper. Headed in after only a few hours becaus of several t-storms hanging around and numerous water spouts. Water was very dirty, maybe 4 feet vis. It was nice just to finally get out!! Hope the good weather will stay for a while.
Just back from 5 days in Orange Beach... took the boat over for the wife and kids to do a bit of near shore trolling for spanish and bonita.... Friday shoulda been awesome offshore.... we trolled several miles out of Perdido Pass and the water was slick with a little swell underneath... more swell yesterday.. and today.. well the line of TSTMS offshore convinced me to run the ICW all the way back.... maybe it will get right for this coming weekend.
Went to 817 and the Ram yesterday... caught a few school size yellow fins saw some bigger fish but the freaking grass precluded deploying the downrigger..... very choppy 2's with 3's and the occasional 4'er...but all in all a nice day for a CAT ride. Came thru a pretty good TSTM line about 15 south of North Light.. steady 20-25kt winds with gust to probably 30-35... heavy rain for about 10 minutes... seas about 4' on the edges of the storm. it was actually quite pleasant yesterday.. air was drier than expected for july and cooler.. hell its only about 81 outside right now. FWIW...tons of scattered grass between 817 and the ram... some large patches as far north as 133 block as well. water was nice clean green... with blue overtones at the Ram... boats coming up from the south indicated it was pretty slow at horn mountain. The was some chatter of a blue tagged east of marlin and some nice bull mahi as well... but we didnt see it.
Blue,
I looked long and hard and couldn't find any tuna steaks at my doorstep Sounds like you had a decent trip. Give me a heads up next time you head out there. Might be interested in doing the buddy boat thing.
