Default Sharkin' Off South Jersey This Weekend

Is anyone here fishing the South Jersey Shark Tournament? If so, best of luck to you. GET ON THE MEAT!

I'm fishing the OCMTC Shark Tournament. Hopefully the cloud cover will blow off soon so I can get a decent satshot from the Rutger's site so I'll know where to go for the Man With The Toothy Grin.

Just remember everyone, please be polite to your fellow sharkers out there; don't drive thru their slicks and don't set up near their slicks. Then everyone is just one big happy family.

MM - Yep; it looks like the water is just about perfect. The last clear sat shot from the Rutger's site was 1pm yesterday but it shows nice 68F water down by the 19 Fathom Lump, Misty Blue Wreck and inside the Elephant's Trunk.

I have a feeling that when I clear the GE Bell, my steering wheel is going to turn to due South.

Hopefully we'll find a fat mako and won't be Lesbian Fishing.

GET ON THE MEAT!

Well it turns out we Lesbian Fished after all.
We took a big chance and went past the 500 Line between the Wilmington and the Baltimore, running until we hit warm, 68F degree water. We zigzagged on the way out, running past the Cigar, 750 Square and the India Arrow looking for a pocket of warm water. Apparently, we blew right past all the makos and were fishing about 50-55 miles too far out. D'Oh!

We eventually ran inshore 35 miles to the India Arrow and caught two bluies very late in the day.

Marlintini - Yep, ran my 22ft TwinVee c/c out there. No problemo. Sunday saw 10-12 ft long period swells but the winds were 5 knots or less so no chop to screw things up. We ran at 23 knots econo-cruise and never once launched it.

We burned only 75 gallons the whole day.

This past weekend we went out to the north Cigar off So.Jersey on Father's Day aboard my friend Mike's Sportcraft 30ft express Reel Therapy.

We went 5 for 8 on blue sharks. No bluefish were around, apparently they were north of us and so were the makos. D'Oh!

I released 2 makos south of you and inside at the misty blue...from what i gathered there were quite a few makos caught by the boats fishing the area where i was. Also, we boated a 180lb thresher...lots of action for only fishing for 4 hours. Makos are still on their way up, boats out of OC MD are getting up to 10 shots a day at makos up to 150lbs. The big ones are hiding out in the deep this year!

Justin - thanks for the 411. I'll pass it on to a few of my buds who are sharkin' this weekend.

I usually plan my fishing and then fish my plan.
But this time out I didn't keep track of where the offshore bluefish were being caught and paid for my negligence by getting covered up in blue sharks.
D'Oh!
