Default Clamp on Rod holder - are plastic any good??

I'm still recovering from just buying a new-to-me boat. The wallet is beyond thin, to say the least.

My boat has 2 trolling rod holders, but that really isn't enough. I need at least 2 more. I see a lot of metal clamp-on rod holders for $40+, but wonder if I have to spend that much. I have seen some nylon ones as well, for <$20. Are they any good, or are they really designed for storage? Last thing I want to see is a nice rockfish taking off with my rod, reel, lure, and the big pieces of a cheap clamp-on rod holder.

Don't waste your money, they're not strong enough. I had a set on a 13 whaler a few years ago. If a fish hit your better react fast because you never knew if they would hold. Never actually lost a rod but came close.

Get the Metal ones and the good ones. The cheaper versions corrode easy.

They work fine for your Zebco spincast combos.

For your Loomis and comparable rigs I would go for the Stainless or just hold on to the rod.
