Default San Diego info needed

I will be in San Diego Next week and will be able to fish Friday May 9th. Looking for any info. I will be staying in the Gas Lamp area. Would enjoy going out since I fish Lake of the Ozarks exsclusively and would enjoy something different.

See the following links for info on San Diego sportfishing operations. I recommend a 3/4 day boat to the Coronados (e.g., Mission Belle, Chubasco II, Malihini). For a shorter trip, try a 1/2 day boat out of Mission Bay (Islandia or Seaforth sportfishing). The winter is the poorest season for sportfishing in San Diego, however. The best months are June through October. The vast majority of the winter fishing is for bottom fish (sand bass, calico bass, rockfish, lingcod), which tend to run small (less than 3 lbs generally).

SeaEsta, Take a 3/4 day trip out of Seaforth. Either Mission Belle or the San Diego to the Coronado Islands. Weather is loooking good this week and I believe the yellowtail will bite. It has been good when the weather is right. I plan on fishing Saturday off my own boat, but those are your best bets. If the Yellowtail bite at the islands expect some big fun! It's a beautiful place to hook-up! Jeff.

SeaEsta,

I've done some research on fishing San Diego recently. I'm going for a week in June and am leaving what will most likely be hot action here in the Boston area. So I explained to the wife that I need to get at least one day on the water while on this trip.

I found that there aren't many(nearly nada) inshore guides in the San Diego area. Apparently much of the saltwater fishing is done "offshore" for open water, pelagic fish. I don't know if you fly fish, but there's a guide service run by a Mr. Bowman in the San Diego area. He's been featured in "Fly Fishing Saltwaters" a few times, with nothing but praise for knowing the local fishery like the back of his hand. I believe he does light spinning/conventional tackle as well. I'm not sure what the targeted species are this month, but he tells me I'll get shots at bonito, yellowtail, cuda and mako sharks next month! I'm totally psyched about this "vacation" to San Diego now.

He answered my e-mail immediately, though I believe he said he'll be away til Tuesday? Anyway, check his website out and send him an e-mail.

If at all possible, tell him Paul from Boston sent you.

Good Luck,
Paul
