I've seen the Shimano Torium reel in Cabela's. It looks good, with new bearings, decent line capacity, and reasonable price. Any thoughts on the Torium as a reel for amberjacks and the occasional try for tuna?

With 6:1 retrieve it will be an arm killer on tuna! I can't imagine having to crank tuna on a 6:1 ratio reel, you must have bigger forearms than me. I'll stick to the two speeds that have the low gear for us wusses.

Folks around here catch some nice yellowfins casting poppers with Trinidads, and this appears to be a budget version of that reel. You don't need Popeye forearms, if you're cranking against the drag, you aren't doing it right.

I've been using a Torium 30 since Dec and have nothing but praise for it. The 6.2:1 ratio is outstanding. Mine is spooled with 30lb mono backing topped with 65lb Power Pro on a Crowder 6' 30-50 rod. Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper or kingfish higher up in the water column it does it all. I'm still using my TLD 15's but there's a new kid on the block....

Just put 5 Shimano Trinidads for sale on the Trading Dock. These reels were used very little in the past 2 years.

6.1 retrieve is 1 turn on the crank = 6 turns on the spool. It is considered a high speed reel. Faster than your two speed reels.
