Just looking for opinions from people that fish in the Inlet. The game the last, say, 4 years has been particularly terrible. What's there these days, what are the best spots in the Inlet for a 15' flats boat and outside the Inlet for a 24' Pursuit walkaround?

We mostly fish the jetties (north side) inside and out and Woodlawn.

This time of year is not the best for Murrells Inlet - the water is too shallow and thus too warm. Usually this inlet and the jetties are better in late April to late May when the water starts warming up after the winter. Thats when the baitfish start to reappear and that brings reds, trout, flounder, and blues - usually in abundance. If I was confined to inshore this time of year I would go down to the jetties of Winyah Bay at Georgetown. Offshore you can catch kings and dolphin as close as 35 miles with regularity - last year we caught a sailfish 24 miles out in 65 foot depth. Hope this helps!

reelgator, that news is both disappointing and encouraging. Disappointing because we have gone the fourth week of June for the past, oh, 40 years and that's "the week" to go. Encouraging because its good to know that the fish are somewhere.

The Jetties at Murrells Inlet at times are about as rough of water as I'd like to take the jon boat out in. So we'd have to trailer to Winyah. Maybe we'll try it next year, though! And thanks for the offshore tip... next year we plan to take our Pursuit for the first time and will have the option of offshore.

Heres an update from a relative who lives down there - there were reports of some fairly large redfish caught this past week while bottom fishing with cut bait close to the jetties. Good luck!

I was fishing this past weekend out of Murrells Inlet. We were 14 miles north of the inlet and out about two miles. Picked up two nice cobia; one going over thirty pounds. Another boat caught ten kingfish in the fifteen to thirty pound range.
