We have the WaveRunner chartered for Friday. Can anybody give me a report on the fishing of late?

I have been working hard and haven't been to the coast since July.

I am kind of out of touch.

Swampdogg,

The boats havn't been out much lately with the all the weather systems. They should be able to get out this week and find the fish before you get here. I think the wahoo bite has been fairly steady for a while and the dolphin has been good too. The yellowfin hav't come this far south yet but might show up with the cooler temps. A buddy of mine is going out tomorrow so I will let you know what they catch. If the weather is bad, they have been catching kings close to the beach.

I saw a post on one board this a.m. where wahoo and dolphin were caught around the 14 buoy and that one fellow had caught a "big tuna" not far from there. Did not say what kind of tuna. ??Bigeye?? maybe. Maybe a decent Yellowfin????

Are there any Specks around MHC as yet. I am leaving Friday for Nags Head and over the next week or so after that will be fishing my way down to MHC. I too might try to pick up on a Charter trip weekend of Oct 12/13 ish.

DONT, I was looking at the WAVERUNNERS site and they had a cancellation on the 12th .If I were serious about fishing that weekend I would get on the phone pretty quick to Bruce Pollock 252-726-5018 . They are a great boat and crew and usully don't have many openings for this time of year. "RAINNMAKER"

Swamp, I caught a sailfish the Sunday before this past at the R14 buoy. I didn't do much else however. A couple gaffer dolphin, and a few other knock downs but missed the fish. It would have been real slow if it weren't for the sail. Seemed like the bite was before 9 and after 2:30. I caught the sail at 3:15. It seemed like other boats had also boated several wahoo's by 9am when I was dropping my lines in. The sails were hot all weekend however.

As far a Waverunner goes, I've always heard good things. For my brother's bachelor party several years ago (6-7), one half of the guys chartered it and did very well. I was on another boat and did well also. I think the captain then was Howard Basnight if I remember correctly. It is one of the nicest boats in the fleet down there and I'm sure has a very capable captain. I can't seem to remember the current captains name, but I've heard of him. I walked past the boat last weekend while I was down and saw his name on the boats plaque. You guys should have a great trip I would think.

Now, if I can only have a little luck myself. I'm headed to Ocracoke, and so far it appears the weather will be decent.

Good luck,

-Matt H

Swampdogg,

My buddy left me a note saying thay had 2 sails to jump off, caught 2 kings, 3 mahi, 1 blackfin, 2 whahoo and lost 2 wahoo at the gaff. I didnt get to talk to him so I dont know how big any of them were. It looks like you should be in good shape for Friday with no real weather changes between now and then.

Good Luck!

I am jazzed. The weather is shaping up great, I got 36 holes tomorrow, fishing on Friday and 36 again on Saturday.....

And our place is a driver and a wedge from the waterfront, where the Seafood Festival is this weekend! All with my best friends in the world.

Yea, I will be able to concentrate at work today..

Plan on going out friday... I've heard that the sails are still hitting good around the 14 bouy area too, and a few big eye tuna have been showing up. I'll be heading out of beaufort inlet around 6-6:30 on "Hoo-King'em". Give me a holler on the radio if ya see me. I scan most of the freq's, but turn it down when someone inevitably get a hot mic, sooo I if I don't call back it's not intentionally... (guys I take with me don't know jack except what I've taught them in the few times they've been out with me.) Good luck....
Hoo-King'em,
Scott
