Default Penn Reels Question?

I have 3 Penn Int. II's, all 30SW's (two speed wide). All three have silver wind lever end caps. I'm looking to buy one more of these, however, every time I see one for sale, it always has a Gold endcap like the one below???

IS there a difference? The year made or something like that...? Just curious...?

Default Penn Reels Question?

Birdman,

Check both ends of the handle. For a while Penn made the silver end heavier so the handle is always in an optimum position to grab. One end silver, the other end gold.

Mine are silver on both sides. And my reels are new (2 years old).

They've changed the handles many times over the years. Most models right now have the silver on both ends.

If you're looking for another get the 30VSW. Much, much better reels.

They sell for less now than the 30SW's did.

Birdman.
This comes from a very reliable source:
The silver tipped handles are Chinese Knock-offs, they flooded the market a few years back. The gold tipped are of course the real McCoy. So, if you want to match the ones you have (silver tipped) send me $22.00 I've got a trunk load of them.........

HUH? Where are you seeing them for less than the old ones?

I bought mine brand new on sale at my local bait shop for $375. The cheapest I've seen the 30Vsw is $519.

I need one more....

$375 was probably a sale price when Penn was discontinuing them for the new V series about 2 years ago. Before that they were up to $599 at the major tackle outlets.

Now they're generally around $460-499

....and they should be around $100.

Anywho, I don't want one odd reel, I want to get the same reel for my fourth get up.

Send that mismatched one to me - that will solve your problem and help with mine.

Savage,
I don't have a mismatched one, John957 is trying to talk me onto buying a mismatched one (the new Penn 30's). But what I want/need is an old Penn 30SW.

That was just a wise crack, not real info. There are not knockoffs.
