it seems like the sailfish bite slows a little after the full moons here, especially during prime sailfish season months of jan and feb. but maybe i am just giving into superstition. there are so many variables that could affect the bite it is hard to definitely say it is just the moon.
but I have also seem the marlin bite here absolutely turn on right after a full moon.for a couple years around 2008 2009 after the full moon at the end of November early DEC, we experience a red hot marlin bite lots of boats were getting 10+ marlin bites per day. and catching up to 10.
even this first week of this January we had a great concentrated sailfish bite at the craters, seeing 20 sailfish a day, but only a few marlin were being seen , and then came some weather and wind , and a full moon, afterwards it seem the sails had moved down to the pocket but not everyone one was seeing as many sails or getting bites, but everybody started seeing 1 to 4 marlin a day.
it does seem the sails eat more aggressively leading up to the full moon,
the absolute peak sailfish season here in the central pacific seen to be mid feb till mid april.
there is often a huge number of fish within 50-60 miles of los suenos during that time period. there have been plenty of times where boats catch over 50 sails in a day. and catching 15- 20 is common. |
