If the Penn isnt that old, Id say its a good price, considering its like $1200 brand new. The Fin-Nor is probably old because I think they go for almost $3K new; but if its fairly new, then that too is a great price.

jayman,
Unless you are targeting giant bft or are tournament fishing for sharks those setups are overkill for anything out at the Hudson. You definitely aren't fishing with stand up gear with those outfits. You're either fighting out of the rod holder or in a chair.

Hmm. No, those numbers don't mean anything to me. Have a hazy memory of the Penn 130 H going out of production in... umm, 1985? After that there was only the S, ST and STW. (with hopes of someone correcting me on that).

Really though, mileage is more important than age. Both were considered great reels.

12A sort of throws me off track... 12 lb, Ahab series? Otherwise, the larger 12 / 0 was called FN120. The Regal series was called Regal, and Typhoon was was also called just that. I think.

Get back later if I remember something else.

The Penn 130 H is a high speed single speed reel with a 2.2:1 gear ratio. Not the best choice for GBFT.

unless the fin nor is a late model Tri gear made 4-5 years ago I wouldnt buy it. There are few parts available and the price is a little high.

I'd skip it unless you really want a reel that big which I don't think you need for the kind of fishing you plan to do- a 50W will work fine. First, you're getting old reels. Second, they are single speed. Third, there's no warranty.

You can get a 50W 2-speed reel that will run you about $550-600 new depending on the whether you chose Shimano, Penn, Avet, Everol, or Alutecnos. You can get a lot of nice rods for $300-500, as well.
