Default My Christmas gift from the wife

I obviously have made a breakthrough. We are both flying down to New Orleans in May to stay at a fishing lodge. She is even going to fish with me. We will be staying at the Victoria Inn. We will have a guide which will hopefully take us for redfish. I know some of you are from the area so I can use any input. I have never been to the Gulf Region. I will have a day to kill some time and already have the Ok to go offshore if I want also. Anyone want to take me out? I've caught tuna before but would like to try for grouper off of the oil rigs. Any help would be appreciated.

What area are you planning to fish??? Not sure where Vistoria Inn is located... Venice, Grand Isle, Fourchon, Cocodrie???? Do you want names of reputable Charters in the area?

Auguste I think the planets aligned somehow. Ring Leader it is 23 miles south of New Orleans and it says we will be fishing the Barataria Estuary. My wife looked into a charter for offshore, but it is difficult with only two people. I'm saving my $$ to try and be able to go offshore and fish the oil rigs. Anyone willing to do that? I won't have any fishing gear with me either. I have a 21' boat and know what it costs to run. I don't even know how far you need to run to these rigs. I guess when I watch them catching grouper on TV in need to listen too. ANyone ever stay at Victoria Inn?

Zenfold,
I like what you're getting at. Maybe there should be a forum here for "Fishing Shares" kind of like time shares. You post where you are going and what kind of fishing you want to do and where you are located and what kind of fishing you do. You go grouper fishing in the Gulf and take the person who took you out for salmon in a Great Lake or where ever you do your boating, and share expenses. I like it.

Sounds like a great idea to me . . . you should push it farther and see where it goes

Sounds like the Lafitte or Emprire area to me. I'll look around to get an idea of where you'll be. Are you bringing your own boat???

Ringleader it is Lafitte charter fishing guides. I will be flying down, so no boat. Gingersdad I like your idea. Oh I fish out of Lewes Delaware in the Delaware Bay.

I found them on the web. Nice looking place too. For Offshore fishing you'll need to look in Venice, Empire, or Grand Isle. The crew size is going to be your toughest obstacle... If you can find one or two more bodies you can fill a charter. I know a guy in Venice who is very reasonable and a top notch charter too. he may be able to put together a charter that mixes you with 2-3 other clients to help split the costs. If you are interested I'll give you his e-mail.

You can get into good bottom fishing anywhere from 5-25 miles off of the Miss. River. I've never known So. LA. fishing to be known for Grouper like some parts of Florida are, but they are there nonetheless and I am far from a local fishing authority. Red Snapper and AJ's are very plentiful that time of year...

Zenfold,
When it gets closer to your travel date got to rodnreel.com and under the reports category start looking in the offshore section and it is quite common to find a group looking to round out a charter. Or you can post yourself and see if anyone has an open spot.If I have my boat by then you can go with me. May 17-19 we have a 3 day charter to the Chandelier islands on a mothership/skiff adventure we may have an opening.

David thanks for the offer, response and link. I will be down the weekend of May 7th. It looks like May 8th would be the only day available.
