Default spoons for 4 wt flyrod?

I want to make some spoons for use with a 4 wt flyrod. I plan to use them for catching shad on the Roanoke River in March. I’m thinking about making them from a single layer of fiberglass on a size 1 hook (I’m guessing metal would be too heavy?) Has anyone ever done anything like this? Any ideas, advice etc? Thanks, chip.

The ones I have used, not made by me, seem to just be epoxy, no fiberglass in them.

Chip, use spinner blades like go on spinner baits,*lots of various sizes and colors. Best place to find them is Jans Netcraft.com use a split ring to attach the hook and another one for the line tie and you're good to go.........

Chip,
Use two part expoxy. Shape the braid how you want ans set it in epoxy. Or just to a cut out of some shiny paper or aluminum foil and encase it epoxy...
BTW the most productive fly for me was a simple size 18 with bead head and a little chartreuse yarn wrapped around the shank.

Thanks for the suggestions. Silverg, where'd you get them?

Right now I think I'm going to press a heated spinner blade into a block of parafin to make a mold. I've been messing with it a little, but it needs refinement. Thanks again for the suggestions. chip.

for spoon material I use and it is kind of gross but it works. Fake Fingernails. You can paint them silver (surprise). Attach them to the hook with superglue. If you wrap the hook before you attach the spoon you get a better contact and the fly will last longer
