Default Cod fishing

I would like to hear from any cod fishermen East or West coast on what is your favorite rod & reel combo. Favorite jig or bait set up. What you use under 200' and deeper. I just want to hear from any one, and every one what they feel works the best for them. Lets be open and truthful and share what works for you. Lets catch some fish.

Rod will depend on if you are fishing on your own boat or off a party boat. Most prefer an 8 foot rod if fishing from a Party boat. I fish from my own boat and prefer a 7 foot rod. My newest set-up is the new 7' Shimano Teraz Rod (heavy) paired with a Shimano Talica 16II. 50lb braid. Check out the high/low cod rigs from Peace Token tackle. You can also add some pink grubs. I usually will be fishing with 14 to 18 oz. of lead.

Love my Penn Baja 113......I will be adding a few more to my boat. I have it loaded with 80lb braid and a 60lb mono top shot.

Shimano Saltist 30 or 40 in the 4.9 retrieve. I feel this is absolutely prfect balance between weight, line capacity, torque and speed. What to match it on is the only question. I like a 7ft rod with a light tip and heavy backbone the rest of the way down (because I use jigs as well as bait sometimes).
