Default cast net repair....

I keep getting jumpy, when I see bait, and can't stop from throwing over oyster reefs, so I have a couple tears in my Cracker 8' net.

I went to the Cracker/Calusa website, and looked at their instructions for repairing (http://www.calusa.com/howtomend.cfm) and came to the conclusion that if I started trying to follow them it would eat my brain.

Is there a somewhat easier process? I'm thinking, just a few knots with mono? Dental floss?

Feralcat, I save my old mono, usually 17 or 20lb, cut off a piece that's easy to work with, and start tying those little meshes back together.

It's tedious and takes a while to complete if you have a big rip. But it works.

I fix my own from time to time. I would hang it from a hook in the garage ceiling, it makes it easier to work with. I also did not follow any set directions, just used 17lb mono and tied what looks good. It works fine too.

Sit down with a cold six pack and a friend. This will help with the patience factor- sort of like a male quilting party. Using a piece of wood to give you the right spacing while you tie will let you keep doing good work when you finish the first carton.

Default Very Small Wire Ties

I tried tying with mono to repair and got frustrated. Go get some of the smallest wire ties you can get your hands on and use those to mend your net. Quick, cheap and effective. Some might disagree but this method has worked for me through the years of casting around alot junk that tears nets apart. SM

The best material by far I have found for repairing cast nets is DENTAL FLOSS. It is eassy to work with and when you tie a knot it stays tied.

I second the dental floss. I have used it in the past and had no issues with it.

I just use mono. I tie overhand knots 'till I get to the end, then tie a big string of overhand knots. If you go the dental floss route, use unwaxed. Waxed slips worse than mono. Good luck. chip.
