Default Wire line on a TLD-25 ?

Can the TLD-25 handle Monel line for trolling umbrella rigs ? ,Or should I just stick with the powerpro thats on there now with the trolling drails ?

use a mono backing under the wire and you will be fine. fill the reel a little more than half way with 40lb mono then use a 150lb spro swivel then the 300 feet of 40lb Malin marked monel followed by another spro and 20 feet of 50lb leader either mono or flouro terminate with a 150 sampo coastlock snap swivel. I have used this setup with great success for many years

You are better off looking for an older senator with the brass spool. The TLD has an aluminum spool and will not play well with the wire line (corrosion). It will work but it will corrode much faster than the brass spool on the senator. They sill make one with the brass spool specifically for wire, but the older reels all had brass spools and are better built than the new ones.

I know a charter guy who used TLD 25 exclusively for wire line. I asked him about corrosion. He said it was not very bad at all..... then he went on to say he stripped the line off and cleaned the reels twice a year since his saw tons of use.

That makes perfect sense for a charter capt. But I am not that dilligent with my striper gear. So I stick with the Penn 113 HSP for my wire.

Guy's thanks, I actually picked up 2 mid 70's 113's with brass spools last week for 2
9' Bunker spoon rods I got a few weeks back. I just sent the reels into Bucko's for newer Drags, otherwise they looked nice !
I kinda wanted to have 2 completely seperate setups, leaving the 113's on the spoon rods,

Rethinking this whole thing, I may just change the Roller tiptops on my umbrella rig Rods to standard Tops and leave the new 80 lb powerpro on there ?

The weight of the wireline allows the line to sink and slice through the water more effectively than braid or mono. Reducing blow back and keeping baits deeper
