Default line for a spinner

I need to re-spool a couple of 8000 size penn spinning reels. These are multi-purpose reels as I use them for offshore trolling/drifting and inshore durning the winter for chasing stuff during the mullet runs. I was using P-line, but when it was not available at BPS I figured I'd get some opinions on which line would suit me best. It will be 15 lb test.

Thanks,

For spinning, you'll want a line that is "limp" and casts well.

Momoi Hi-Catch or Momoi Diamond Illusion -- don't use the straight Momoi Diamond, it's too stiff. Diamond is great for bottomfishing, not casting.

Ande Tournament line. It's been around forever, but it's still a great line.

I also use Ande Premium Pink on a couple of reels that I use for snapper fishing -- Don't ask me why, I just do...

I tried FireLine clear (Crystal) on a spinner this year, and have been very pleased. It casts well and has pretty decent abraison resistance.

I used Ande for many years but about 10 years ago switched to Sufix Superior and wouldn't trade it for anyone else's mono. I like it enough that I'm buying it in 10, 12, 15, etc -- by the pound or two pound spools...

Same here. Used Ande ever since I was a kid (didn't know any other line existed when I was growing up). Spooled our reels with Sufix about 7 or 8 years ago and have been respooling 'em with Sufix Superior ever since... Great all around line. I respooled with Momoi once and quickly returned to Sufix Superior... Nothing wrong with the Momoi, but it was no better than Sufix (IMO) and cost about double...

Sufix Superior or Ande Backcountry are two of my favorites and are reasonably priced.

I might get bashed for this comment but I spool braid (powerpro) on my spinning outfits and tie 15-20' flouro leaders. If you have your drags set properly, the lack of stretch is not an issue. IMHO, the 'feel' you get from the line is much better and the casting is far superior. You also have to replace your line a lot less and the flouro leader is almost necessary here in South Florida where the water is so clear.

Not a bad idea, at all. Just depends on what you're fishing for. I have a few larger offshore spinners (for casting to schoolie dolphin, triple tail, etc.) spooled like this. But my smaller spinners (used almost exclusively for flatlining for yellowtail) are straight mono (for some reason, even with long ass leaders, the braid doesn't work as well when flatlining (for us, anyway)).

Basically the exact same setups we use... we fish YT on a completely different set of mono-spooled ultra-light reels. I still use the braid while YT fishing with bigger baits to target muttons. Braid sinks faster, or so I think.

Power Pro is hard to beat for a spinning reel for me

Try Berkely Trilene XL in 20 lb test. You'll be pleased. You don't need to fill the spool with any line. Use 30lb backing topped with 100 - 150 yards of premium line.
