Default How to attach balloons to main line?

Whats the best way to attach balloons to a main line without kinking the line? I tried long line clips but they dont hold smaller diameter lines very good. This is for swordfishing after I let out 400' with a pound of led.

247, I sword a lot and use pool noodle floats attached using LL clips. I used to use balloons too. The only way I was able to get them to work and not slide is to use a rubberband. Wrap it around the line 3 times and pass one end through the other. You will then have 1 end of the rubber band sticking out. Go ahead and blow up the balloon. Take the loop of the rubber band that is sticking out and double it over. Put the knotted end of the balloon inside the loop and cinch it down. That will do it!

You must be using small LL clips because the ones I have dont grip the smaller diameter line, it just slides through the clip. How big of a noodle do you use?

247 - one way to get the LL clips from not sliding is to again wrap the thinner mono with a rubberband and then clip the LL clip to the rubberband and mono. basically the rubberband is just increasing the diameter of the mono allowed the LL clip to hold.

Yep! That will work. I wrap the rubber band around about 4 times, put the clip through both tag ends, and clip it back on top of itself.

Gotcha, I like that idea. Both rubber band and clip sounds like a winner.

Never sword fished but this may help you, for tuna and sharks we blow up the ballon, tie the ballon on, then wrap the the elastic a few times and tie it above the ballon knot. It holds with plenty of lead and seas.
