I bought the above crimper( Blacktip Titanium) so I can start learning to crimp connections. I am trying to crimp 80# Big Game mono with Momoi 1.1mm Mini Lock sleeves.
When I try to crimp the sleeve, the tool does not seem to crimp tightly enough. It does not matter how hard I press the connection is never tight. Is there an adjustment I can make on the tool to make the crimper clamp down better? If there is, where is it and how do I adjust it?
Thanks in advance for the help

It's possible that the sleeves are too big, but you might be able to crimp them tight enough using a flat part of the tool surface instead of the tooled notches.
Hey Fzero thanks for the quick reply, the container for my sleeves says 60-90# test. I’m wondering if the chart above uses inside diameter measurement. I thought that the 1.1mm measurement on my container was for the outside diameter of my sleeve. My Berkley Big Game mono is .889mm.
When I am trying to crimp I am using the smallest cup to cup section which is labeled 0.1-0.5mm. The tool just does not close tightly when there is a sleeve in it.

I'm not familiar with the brand, but, in any case, slightly oversize sleeves can usually be made to work.

I noticed that the sleeves are oblong, so it might just be that using the circular cups on that tool are preventing you from putting pressure in the right place (along the flatter sides of the sleeve). When it comes down to it, you can crimp with pliers or a wire cutter if you're careful enough. If you can't use any of the cups, the pointy parts between the cups or the flat part at the tip, try using needle-nose pliers or a wire cutter. Just double check for tightness/don't cut through the sleeve.
Try crimping the sleeve in the size larger hole first.
Usually that is a good trick to get the sleeve to start to compress correctly without "rolling" on you. Then you move it to the proper hole to finish the crimp, compressing it the rest of the way.
This usually helps someone new to the crimping game if rolling is an issue. This helps when you are using sleeves that might be a touch too big also.
Depending on the brand of sleeves, you may or may not be using the correct one. If there is alot of "slop" or space in the sleeve around the line diameter, go down another size in your sleeves.
The printed chart on the packs is a "guideline" and not written in stone.
Good luck with it.

It sounds like the sleeves are too big for the mono. Check the diameter of the mono and get the nearest sleeves to that diameter. Here's a link to a brief article that I wrote on crimping correctly that might help you.
Thanks to all for helping,
Captain spike, I have read that article a dozen times Its a very well written article for people who are just getting into crimping like me. Because of your article I felt the confidence to buy a set of crimpers. Thank you
Im going to take a different approach, If I take a sleeve(1.1mm) without the mono in it and put it in the smallest diameter cup to cup section (0.1-0.5mm) and clamp down as if my life depended upon it, the sleeve will barely compress.
To me, it feels like there is a cam adjustment on the tool that is telling it how far to compress before the ratching action takes over. If I could figure out how to make the correction I feel the tool would work properly.

You should practice your crimping on mono above 120+ lbs. Anything below you should be using knots because you can get closer to 100% of line than crimps.
You'll need to grind down the jaws of your crimper a bit if you want to 80lb crimps to be tighter.

no offense Phil, but im not going that route lol. If I cant get it to crimp im returning the crimper and buying another one. I know some people are crimping 80# and above to aid bait presentation. I dont think i can go down in sleeve size. the 80 barely fits in the sleeve.

What happens when you try the middle 2 cups. I went down to the basement and played with a 80-120# crimp. It has 3 cups and I used the middle one. Crimper would not even open enough to use the smallest hole. The largest cup I use for 300#. The sizes are not marked on the tool.

Can you take a photograph of how you have the crimp inside the crimpers when you are about to compress? And one after you compress?
I'd like to see which openings you're using and the orientation at which the crimp is inside the jaws.

Maybe try some crimps that have longer handles? I used to use a short pair of crimps and had trouble getting a good crimp. I went to a longer handle(better leverage) and have had no problems since

eddy, the second slot does nothing because its too big.

I'm talking more about the movement of the hook on a loop vs' a tight knot. I will be getting the black mini sleeves once i work out my lack of skill with the crimper. this will help reduce the visibility i hope

If you need a set sent to you, let me know. I have a few on hand.
Killer thank you, the jaws are actually almost too thick. there is barely the required 1/16 on either side of the sleeve

Will post in a little while. I think this will clear up everything

The handles touch, which stop me from crimping lol. I'll show you in the pics. I may have to return this pair and try the mustad crimpers i saw at west marine.
