I'm turning 50 very soon and my bride says do/go whatever / wherever you want. I know someone who teaches at Marlin U. and have also been tempted by the long range trips out of southern California but these excursions will have to wait (for the time) due to time limitations.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I have a weeks vacation in mid-september and we are deciding what fishing destination to hit that's convenient, reasonably affordable and do-able on short notice. I'm trying to also make it where I have a back-up plan or two due to possible weather situations (hurricanes season). We are thinking of Bermuda, Cabo, Bahamas, Mexico or even Costa Rica. I'm more interested in light tackle wade fishing such as I've done in the Bahamas (bones, etc.) but welcome any suggestions for locations, fishing charters, accomodations, etc.
I also fly commercially for free (non-rev. standby) which helps. Two couples going. Any suggestions much appreciated?
This is the prime time to visit Cabo. I beleive this is when the striped marlin start schooling up around the Cape. I have fished at Cabo San Lucas itself, and further up into the Sea of Cortez at East Cape. East Cape gets you more of the inshore species like roosterfish, while Cabo gives you a better shot at bigger fish. I liked East Cape better, less touristas, not as busy. There is a good fishing hotel there that can arrange pangas and cruisers right from the beach. Rancho Leonero, you might give it a try. www.rancholeonero.com

You don't indicate where you are located. Were it me in your situation, I'd try Andros - supposedly every kind of fishing opportunity imaginable, close to CONUS, few tourists, lots of local knowledge, big enough to offer a variety of accomodations (from resorts to rental homes to fish camps), reasonably priced boat rentals (if you want to Captain yourself), and not even remotely fished out.
I appreciate the resppnses so far.
A Few Dollars - The wife laughed at that one!
Any other suggestions welcomed. Am tempted to hit the Bahamas again but haven't been there in a few years. Spent a week in Eluthera and loved it. Thanks
That's what I'm talking about to heck with fishing..

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.

I called a couple of places (all inclusive fish lodges) on Andros and found out they close up for about six weeks after labor day. I am still looking though. Thanks for the responses.

Any recommendations on the house/boat rentals in the Abacos? I was also looking there and it's getting close so I'm near decision time. I've been to Eluthera but not the Abacos or Andros.
Thanks
