On Friday we managed to pick a few sea bass inshore. We had a few nice fish, 3 pounds plus.
The forecast for another beautiful day encouraged me to suggest we take a run offshore to catch some Bluefin on Saturday. We got a late start, but it didn't take us long to put five guys who had never caught a tuna into fish. The first shot on fish was a triple header (with a 4th knockdown that didn't hook up), and we got all three. The fish were nicer than what we had last weekend, with all three between 33" and 36" (20 - 25 pound class fish).
The next pass gave us two knockdowns, followed by a double header hook up. We landed one of the two fish, another keeper at 32", but we released this one since we were already limited out.
We had one more tuna cherry to pop, and a third pass gave us another double header hookup and we landed both, which were released. With everyone having caught their first tuna, I guess the fish took their toll on the guys, because despite the great weather and fishing, they said that's it, Cap, take us home. Six-for-seven with another 3 knockdowns, not bad for leaving the dock at 6:15 and getting back at 1:30, and it's always great to leave them biting.
They can be caught pretty much anywhere along the 20 Fathom line right now using small green machines, cedar plugs and jets. Keep it small, we're not catching giants.
