Looking for a high quality pair of binoculars for the boat. Having reviewed all of the past threads on binocs along with general searches on the web, I have not come across anyone who uses the Zeiss 7 x 50 Marines.
Few, if any, will question the quality of the Zeiss brand; however, are there any folks out there who use this particular binocular and would be willing to share their thoughts. Thanks.
Can't help you. I've got a pair of the Stiener Commander's and also a pair of the Fujinon FMTRC-SX's - both are excellent. I prefer the feel of the Stieners. Can't imagine the Zeiss' are worth 2-4x the cost of the Stieners or Fijinons.
I have Zeiss Victory 8x42 and Swarovski EL 8x32 for use on land. Incredible optics on the Zeiss - especially in low light. Swarovski is a lot smaller and almost the same optics. But, I use Steiners on the water - Zeiss seemed to be too much $$$ for binocs on a boat.

Look at Meopta. They make the glass for Zeiss and Swarovski but you dont pay for the name. I hunt with a pair and they are incredible. Paid @600 for 12x50s.

I second what huntrig said. I have a pair of Meoptas (The Cabelas Euro binoculars), and they are crystal clear. I compared them at the store and they were as good, if not better than most of the top German binos. And price was no object. I just wanted the best binos. 10x40s are around $800. Go to a Cabelas store and look thru them. They are made by the Cheychs(sp?)

for that kinda coin, i'd skip regular binos and jump to the stablized marine units.
last i checked, Fujinon and Nikon (i believe they are the same for these models) are tops on the list with Canon just behind. Yes, the Zeiss and Swar. may be just a fraction of a hair better in optics, but the gyro elec. stabilization just can not be beat for on the boat.
Yep, the Fuji and Nikon 14x40 Stabilized binocs are the same. I have the Nikons. They are absolutely amazing. If your going to spend anything over $400, IMO, your better off saving the coin for a few more months, and getting the stabilzed binocs. The 14x40's can be found for around $900. WELL WORTH IT!
What happens if you drop your stabilized binocs? My non stabilized ones are always slipping off the helm, but no problem, they are shockproof.
I have held off buying stabilized binocs because I am worried about their fate in my boat.
Interesting - thus far no responses from folks who use Zeiss on the water. Have given some thought to the Stabilized glasses. Sure would be helpful if there was a way to test the various glasses on the water before purchasing, especially binocs costing + $1K.

Best thing to do is go to a boat show, and test them all out there. I did it at the Newport Boat show in RI, which is on the water. I took various binocs from the various booths, and walked down the dock and tried them out. Made a BIG difference comparing them side by side like that.
