I am considering buying this reel for general bottomfishing/jigging. I have no intentions of going after bluefin tuna with this reel. I will be using it for dropping jigs (bucktails, and Barefoot Fishing's decoy jigs) for grouper, butterfly jigs for blackfin tuna and possibly wahoo, and of course the "occaisional" amberjack or pitch bait for mahi. Will probably put on a custom rod, or a Star jigging rod. What are your thoughts or comments on this reel? I know it hasn't been out long and been tested very much but someone has to do it first I guess! Hopefully someone else has given this reel a try and will help shed some light. Thank ya'll in advance!

^^Pic shown is 4500H but 6500 looks identical just larger.
I would LOVE to hear some feedback on either, they are fairly new and I haven't had any time to test them...but we have sold quite a bunch to guys like yourself using them for what you described and I have heard all positive, no negative.
I am looking forward to hearing some first hand reports, and good luck and enjoy whatever you decide!
JV if I could afford the Dogfight I would get it! But yes I am talking about the second reel you showed. I will probably be buying this reel and will be glad to give a review once I start using it! You have a PM also.
I recently purchased the Saltist 6500 and am very impressed so far. The 6500 matches well with my trevalla XXH. I have never ventured into the realm of super expensive spinning reels (i.e. Stella, Saltiga, any Accurate, etc), so my opinion may not mean much. I also have a Quantum Cabo 80 on a trevalla XXH, and I think the Saltist is a better reel so far. It feels much more solid and has a very smooth drag. The Cabo drag tends to lock up on higher drag settings. So far I have only tested the Saltist on smaller (20-30lb) AJ's and assorted bottom fish (sea bass, grouper, etc)....and I've only taken it out twice. So my testing is definitely not extensive yet. I have another bottom fishing trip planned for Sunday, so hopefully I'll be able to give better feedback.
Internally, the Saltist has some similarities to the Saltiga, but falls short obviously (just look at the price difference). It's definitely worth a look considering the price.

I have used the STT6500H Saltists on several occasions and just recently purchased two STT4500H (got them on sale) that will delivered by the weekend. The 6500's are sweet reels and with 33 lbs of drag can handle just about anything your back can handle! I have a couple of FinNor Offshore's in the 7500 size and I really like the Saltists better. I plan on using the STT4500's for a mix bag of uses from Tarpon to Grouper and I'm certain they will handle the work. Will fill the 4500 with Daiwa Samurai Braid 40LB.

Whoaa at $1100, not many people CAN afford that puppy.. Let us know how the Saltist works out..
I was also checking out their equivalent to the TLD30 II at the Miami Boat show.. Looked to be a solid reel.. If anyone has any experience with that pls share..

BigBite the reel feels solid, I like the fact that there is no bail spring, just manual. I flip with my hand anyway so this is not a problem for me one less thing to break/ replace. I cannot tell what the drag is made out of, would love to know if someone else does! Overall I am happy with the product as of now, just got to test it soon.
