Default Venting Training Certification?

I asked this question on another forum, and I received mixed responses. I'm curious what the thoughts are over here.

What do you guys think about a venting training/certification requirement for anyone bottom fishing in deep waters? It seems that properly venting fish greatly increases their chance for survival in deeper waters. If it were required that a certified "venter", and appropriate venting tools be onboard any vessel that is deep water bottom fishing, it seems that it would be a big tool to leverage when dealing with NMFS and other groups.

Training wouldn't have to be anything major. Have all approved license retailers attend a short training session and have those people give a short demonstration to people wanting to purchase the license. $5-10 for the training once and then it appears on your license each time you get it renewed.

Thoughts?

Nope. I work on computers for a living. Fishing is my hobby. I'm just tired of these organizations taking away my rights to fish, and I'm trying to help come up with some outside the box ideas to help ensure I get them back.
So, what are your thoughts since there is no sales agenda here?

I see no problem for an angler to vent a fish, there's instructions everywhere ... Google It.

NMFS already passed a regulation requiring a venting tool, as well as a dehooking tool, and circle hooks for reef fish in the Gulf of Mexico

And in most states, you can purchase or renew a license on-line

Went into effect in June 2008, ignorance to the law is no excuse.

to properly vent a fish: easily insert fillet knife and slowly work the knife towards the tail.....flip the fish over and repeat to ensure both fillets come off nicely!

all BS aside.......a good friend of mine(marine bioligist) did studies on pressurization (sp) after fish are released and she says BULL CHIT on venting!.....FWIW i will follow the rules and regs....to an extent!
