Default Precription sunglasses for fishing (CDM 580's?)

Based on another thread on here I am ready to buy some new fishing sunglasses. They are prescription lens and must be polarized. I am thinking CDM 580 lenses?

Anybody using these? Cost? Happy? Any other recommendations would be nice.

Thanks!

-Rob

just my opinion...I would go with the maui jim for prescription glasses. you send the prescription directly to maui and they make the glasses. For costa they send the sunglasses and then have the prescription made.

I have the costa 580s for my sunglasses..but this is just what I have heard from a couple dealers.

Costa does not make their own prescription lenses...they use several outside labs. I ordered a pair and was not happy with the quality and returned them. As stated above Maui makes the own prescript lenses

Several years ago I had a hard time finding a wrapped frame that an optician could put a prescription lense in. Had to settle for a pair of RayBans. They're OK, not great.

I've bought perscription CDM from Clearsight Opticians in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. with good results. Give them a call. 954 761 3937.

I love my prescription Oakley's. Oakley's have their own lab and make their own lenses. Mine have held up very well after two years.

Default RX Sunglasses

No reason to buy Costa and then have a lab put lenses in for you. They won't be the 580 lens. Get LASIK like I did and then go with the CDM 580's

I ordered my Maui Jim prescription sunglasses through Lens Crafters and could not be more pleased with their performance.

Did exactly the same with less than stellar results:

The frame is CDM, the prescription lenses are NOT CDM. Although I got the prescripton from their own Optician Doc, the vision is not as good as I am used to and I get a headache on a regular bases.
I know it's problematic to get prescription lenses in a wrapped around style frame. But those I got I don't wear any more, despite the price tag.

When I got my Rx Costas, the glass came from a third party. I was told also that because of the Rx, mirrored was not available, which was ok by me as friends w/ mirrors complained about sunburned noses.

I have bought 2 pairs from:

http://www.rxsunglass.com/site/Scripts/default.asp

They have the blue mirror lens and work well. I had lasik a few years back but my sight has regressed and I now need prescription lenses. Have used CDM for many years and always been happy with them.

Cheers.

Bitchalot, are the lenses in your prescription Costa's glass or plastic? I also need new Rx sunglasses and am looking at CDM's. The main advantage of the CDM's for me are the anti scratch properties of the glass lenses and if the Rx lenses are plastic that doesn't help me much.

Guys, I am a CDM dealer in my Guatemala tackle shop. If you need Rx lenses as I do I would be better to use Maui Jim or Ocean Waves. I am in the process of setting up accounts with them for my RX clients.

the 580 CDM lens is not available to RX and all of CDM Rx glasses are 3rd party lenses.

Default RX Sunglasses for fishing.

Hey Rob,

Speaking from experience only I have a pair of Maui Jim Stingray's with the HCL Bronze lens.My RX is the MauiPassport/Progressive unbeliavable quality! The RX department in Peoria, IL has outstanding customer service. One very important factor about your RX; you must include the PD (Pupil Distance) mearsurements from your Optician.
Oh did I mention that Maui Jim has their lab in the great state of Illinois, unlike other sunglasses companies out there Maui Jim does not outsource their work.

I am currently using Wiley X. They have blue mirror in plastic and may frames allow for prescriptions. Also there are much safer and lighter than glass. They make there frames and lenses to ballistic standards. I don't use my CDM much after getting my Wiley X

If you wear regular glasses and want the best polarized glasses you can get for the money try this.
Walmart eye centers sells a pair of slide overs I wear all the time on the truck and I use them every day for OTR.
Its easy to tell once you get any of them outside how good the polarized part is by if the car windows around you have that checkerboard look to them. I've tryed buying them from several different types and places and none come close to those slip overs.
Their not that heavy and have the side shilds on them which is a god send on the water. How about under 40 dollars and if your worried about them not being tough they are. Think I have like 4 pairs of them now. Flyrod for brim and bass off the bay boat in the spring and again its just my views , I have never had another pair that I can see down as far under the water with.
If your looking for custom designers to match your outfit I can't help you but if you want some darn good Polarized glass that are hard to beat. They come in green and brown. I like the brown myself.
No longer running west coast but when I was up until last year I'd drive all day on those white sand states and never once were my eyes tired.
Won't make the center of playgirl mag with them but you ask for the best,, not best looking.

I wouldn't know which color matches pogie slime the best anyways . . .

Thanks for the heads up.

If it weren't for people starting to make fun of my old trusty RX polarized glasses (which are the best I've had) i wouldn't have to get new ones!

They are starting to look funky.

Thats to funny..
The side shields are really cool for offshore and end all the glare on the water from the sides and my boats right fast and the wind never bothers your eyes while ridding along at a good clip. Even if your on someones boat thats wet, your protected with them and your vision stays clear when you get sprayed.
Can't help you with the pogie slime... Sorry..
