Default Favorite Blue Marlin Lures

If you were going to purchase Blue Marlin lures for the Gulf and Atlantic, what would they be? Black Barts?

Black-purple-silver caught me my first Blue and several others after that. My favorite colored lures where I fish, regardless of make, are red/orange-blue/black-yellow.

I'm a Moldcraft fan and for the price you just can't beat them. They are just as good, if not better, than the high priced custom lures imho. Their record (or records) worldwide speaks for itself. The Wide Range and Bobby Brown are excellent lures too.

Business.......... for the price of Black Barts........ I sell a ton of Calcutta UVI's........ They look similar to "cups, pushers, angle and scoop" type heads or several others and do really well on the bill fish.....

Matter of fact, if you go to http://publications.ingagepublication.com/CALCUTTA/ and then go to Page 6, you will see the Calcutta UVI head choices and skirt colors. If you don't want to flip the pages, just type "fly" or "echo" or "fancy" into the search bar on the top right corner and it will jump you to that page. These are 65% off right now...

They are big enough to troll without bait of if you want to cut the skirts back, I have alot of guys running ballyhoo, spanish, bonita etc.

twotems .......... I've been running a sale on the Mold Crafts......... 60% off if you need any, I have some left, let me know. Wide range and Super Chugs ..... Pink / Wht / Brown

I have caught them on everything from Iland lures, C&H, Calcutta, Barts etc. Tried and true colors, black, red, orange, blue, white, pink, green, purple, carolina ..... different color combos have been my best colors.

Disclaimer: I am no fantastic Blue Marlin fisherman, but i've caught my share.
My favorite is a Mold craft hooker over a large ballyhoo. Color doesn't matter. With no ballyhoo i like the mold Craft chuggers (Medium and Large). I tend to fish for the smaller Blues with the medium sized lures instead pulling the giant stuff. If I were pulling giant naked lures with nothing but big Marlin in my head I'd probably spurge for the Barts. But I would never give up all the smaller fish to do that and I think the big ones eat the small stuff just fine. If you are not the type to pay attention to the spread and get the benefits out of using bait behind your lure combos, you might as well pull naked Lures. Obviously bait requires spotting fish and dropbacks, to get the most out of fishing that way. Many operations are much better off running naked lures for suicidal fish, rather than trying to up their odds by fishing bait and not paying attention. Then you can really up the game by pulling teasers and bait and switching. That really requires a great team to accomplish. But done correct it outfishes everything. So it all depends on everything. Alot of the times I wish I just put out a bunch of naked lures with the drags fished at strike and wait for a suicidal strike, when my crew flops a dropback or three. I always liked the old reliable Islander/ballyhoo combo, but the hard head of the Islander always gets in my head as a non drop back condusive lure, so I stick to the Softheads. You don't need anything getting in your head when dropping back. That medium Softhead Hooker with a medium/large sized ballyhoo is my standby. Tuna really like it to.

You should take a look at Makaira Pulling lures, www.makairapullinglures.com. They are great in the gulf...take a look at the Lena, Lyla, and Baby Brutus. We have caught several marlin on a blue/white with pearl head Lena.

Naked Spanish. "J" hooked rigged and stitched if fun fishing, circled if Tournament.

The afore mentioned artificials. Bigger bait = bigger fish.
I like to keep a witch doctor teaser down too when marlin fishing.
