Default October Vacation Suggestions

My wife and I are planning a vacation in October. We're looking to spend seven days in an area with warm beaches, good fishing (inland to a few miles offshore), Decent snorkeling and the opportunity to rent our own 17-26' CC to explore in would be a plus. We don't mind resorts-- but I don't care to be stuck at the resort the entire day. I know it's hurricane season-- unfortunately we don't have very much flexability with months. We'll be travelling from SC-- thanks in advance.

My Dad spends a lot of time in the carribbean and St. Maarteen is his favorite, the Dutch side not the French side.

In October though, you ought to consider Puerto Vallarato or Punta Mita in Mexico. I heard it's been slow at times but it can be red hot for big yellowfin of the 200-300 + lb class. El Banco and Corbetena are the spots. Punta Mita is a closer boat ride. More stuff to do in Puerto Vallarta / Nuevo Vallarata.

I wish I was planning a vacation right now . . . congrats!

Most anywhere in the Keys would fit your needs. Also, my wife and I went to Staniel Cay in the Bahamas last April. You might want to consider it. You can go all-inclusive there which includes meals and free use of a 13' Boston Whaler. Not nearly the same size as the CC you mentioned, but it is good for island hopping in the Exumas.

13' Whaler would be fine... I've always been under the impression there aren't many sandy beaches in the keys though?

Beaches do not stretch through the Keys like they do on most of the East coast. However, if you want to lay on the beach, there are places to do it. In Big Pine, you have Bahia State Park. http://www.bahiahondapark.com/ In Key West, you also have a long stretch of beach on the Atlantic side.

The 13' Whaler in Staniel can take you to some pretty cool places...

The keys is a ghost town in October. Cheap rental rates, still in US. No brainer IMO. There a lots of beaches in the keys, some nude. Which are my fav.

I went to big pine key for a week last October 11-18 and had a great time. Like bugbuster said, there are very few tourist around in October. For beaches you cant beat Bahia honda state park, there beach is ranked in the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the country. We had a great time fishing the flats, the reefs, and the deep water. We only saw two other boats fishing the flats in our area, and maybe a half dozen boats out on the reef. We caught around 20 different species of fish in the three days we were on the water. I know there is a place on Big pine at the no-name bridge that offers lodging and boat rental, but I cant remember the name of it. There is also good snorkeling with a designated nature preserve area where no fishing is allowed.

ccboatguy, I think you are talking about the Old Wooden Bridge... http://www.oldwoodenbridge.com/

I stayed there once...small, cottages...clean, but no frills. My dad and I thought they were perfect for our fishing headquarters. My wife has a rule that any place we go on vacation has to be as nice as our house, so I would not pick that place to take her, but she is higher maintenance than some. :-)

Yep, thats the one. My in-laws bought a place on the north side of Big pine last year and when I went down there, they took me to the No-name bar and I saw the place by the bridge, but after a few dos xx's the name slipped my mind.
