Default permits for different fish?

ok guys, im new to saltwater fishing. now, ive been fishing fresh water for many years and with that you buy one permit and you can fish any species. now, i got a link and it seems like theres a permit for tuna swordfish and billfish. now, this upcoming season i plan on fishing stripe bass and blue and maybe some cod. do i have to get a permit for these species? where can i get one, any local marina? thanks for any and all help.

You don't say where you are - in 2010 most coastal states require salt water licenses, which will cover all fish and fishing in state waters by recreational anglers. The HMS license issued by the NOAA (feds) covers Tuna, Marlin, Swordfish and Shark, and is only needed if you are going to target and catch those species. Down South there are also federal permits for Mahi and Redfish, and state permits for other species.

sorry, it will be a 2010 permit. and i will be fish for recreation. for species such ad stipers, blues and cod. the following season i will fish for tuna so i will need the HMS license. i was just unsure about this upcoming season. thanks.
