Not a shot. GBF will max out every piece of terminal tackle on the rod.
Crimp it and never look back. If you are planning on landing a fish you will use
chaffing gear as well.
GBFT fishing is a tough sport, if you are asking this question you better do a lot of
research on the subject cause most offshore tackle tecniques are throw out the door
with them.
I head there every year for the chase and still am amazed by the power of these fish.
even a regualr crimp should go through the bigger guides that are typically on a big 130 rod
I'm talking about 80 - 130 standup rods for 50 and 80 reels with aftco roll on guides. The larger rods with big foot guides will take 560# spro swivels with ease.
I agree with mark, for when we chase the bluefins commercially out of MHC in the winter we go 100 percent wind on, much less there to fail that way, not to mention you can get the fish right flush to the boat for the 'poon shot
I tie 200, 250, and 300 lb fluoro and mono to swivels hundreds of times a year. I use a 4 wrap uni knot and zero failures to date. This is on big fish with heavy drag and TONS (literally) of them.
For your application, however, I think I would be going a different route than a swivel . . .
It would include Jerry Brown hollow core with a chinese finger cuff to the top shot - knot less all the way!
Good luck.
P.S. I trust what Red says and if you knew you would too . . .
red and rb, yall are correct as well, for gulfstream fishin sometime we prefer to use swivels and snaps to change out lures alot. but for the bluefin down in NC we pretty much always run the same thing on 4 rods and you either find the fish or not. i use pink/white blue/white skirts over horse ballys and then out secret weapon is a split tail mullet. dont need to change what ya got out. just gotta move til ya find the fish. and the wind ons make it so nice when bringin them boatside.
