Default Does this happen to anyone else ???

This has happend to me more that I care to mention. Not all the time, but when it does, I know just how my day is going to go. It happend yesterday.
I dropped anchor and tied on my rig, make my first cast and as soon as it hits bottom I hooked up. Boat a nice fish and for the rest of the day I am drowning bait. WTF !!!! . Of course I was pumped to land a 10lb tautog, but was hoping to get a little closer to the limit .
I sometimes think Im cursed.

Yes. It happens to everyone. Fishing is a sport where the success is most of the time un-witnessed. Of course this leads to overstating the facts. Everyone...and I mean everyone gets skunked.

It seems to me that the days where I have everything fully done and prepared for I get skunked but the days where I am rushed and flustered I seem to do the best.

Who knows. I think it is just the way of the universe...

A much better day is when you can't get a bite all day and finish with a flourish. Just seems like you did better.

Ok ,I feel a little better, my brother and I were beginning to think it was a family curse.
I agree with Grampafish, end the day with a bang. I guess its really 6 of one & and hald a dozenof the other . Better than a skunk. I should stop bitching. Plenty of that this year so far. Unfortunately for me, my season started this year at the end of August because of repairs ,so every bite counts.
I will be fishing in the F*$king snow this year.

Yep.....catch a fish on the first cast (or drop) pretty much means the rest of the day is skunk city.

Happens to everyone! I am going to jinx myself from now on , but every single time we go out fishing, we catch something, even if its those false albacore/bonitos. Usually get something in the morning and keeps us pumped for the rest of the day. If we were to spend a couple of hours trolling and catch nothing, we would drink more and fishing goes to hell

Have you ever tracked how your fishing success/failure coincides with tides and moon phase? Just wondering....

Just make sure that you are not applying sun screen or some other activity that would contaminate your hands and then the bait. Could even be touching oxidised parts of boat or equipment.

Well hell, there's your problem!!!
Gee, what an easy puzzle to solve!

You MUST place the rod in a holder.
You MUST look away to retrieve a cold tasty beverage.
You MUST hold said beverage in one hand and something else in the other.
You must NOT have any cup holders within reach of where your rod is or where you are sitting/standing.
You MUST be often distracted by a stereo, bikini, food, conversation.

Only after numerous minutes of the aforementioned items, you MUST check your bait.
When you wind it in and see the hook does not have bait, you'll know there are fish there and you should have been paying more attention to your rod.

Works for me every time!
(if I can get past one of the "distractions", )

That is a rookie mistake I corrected years ago. Here is the fix, after you make your first cast reel that son of a b*$!h in as fast as you can then send it back out there the rest of the day should go off without a hitch Either that or after landing the first fish take off to a different spot.

I have a different pattern.

When bait is easy to make, fishing sucks.

When bait is hard the bite is on.

Aint never easy.
