Default Abu Garcia 6500 TC?

I am interested in this reel for float rig/live shrimp fishing inshore for trout, reds, flounder, and inshore bottom fishing for whiting, drum, etc.

"Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Trophy Series Baitcasting Reels feature four stainless steel bearings, exclusive Swedish cut brass gears, and instant anti-reverse."

This reel is similar to the 6500 C3, with some differences - like the power handle and 4 bearings intead of 3. Does anyone have experience with the 6500 TC?

Thanks!

With the original 6500C's yes - with this upgraded model no. I've used mine for muskies, pike, sailfish and tarpon over the past 35 years. Never had a problem with the reel.

For 18 years now we have used a 6501 C3 (left hand version) for salmon, ling cod, and halibut up to well over 200 pounds. When jigging for bottom fish we use 40lb superbraid. A few years ago we replaced the double handle with a power handle (an Abu kit). Never a problem - great reel.

Great reels.. The TC's are basically the same as the 6500 C3's except most, have the larger 7000 size handle.. which IMO makes it even more versatile.. I have 5 TC's and use them mostly with braid for everything from Fluke to Stripers.. I was still in the tackle biz when the TC's came out, and my opinion is still the same now as it was then.. they are one of the best values out there for your buck

I have a 6500 Striper model. I've had it since the 70's with no issues at all. It casts well and has the smoothest drag on the planet.

Has anyone had trouble with the level wind pawl in this reel? My 320GTI Penns wear out the pawls too fast.

Thanks for the feedback about these reels! I ordered 4 of them. Found them for $89.99 each, and got 15% discount off that, plus free shipping.

Now I just need to figure out what rod to put them on. I'm thinking of getting a couple of Ugly Stick 7'6" Medium Striper rods for float rigs, and either a couple of Ugly Stick Lite 7' MH Inshore rods or 7' Shimano Teramar rods. I know the Shimano costs more than twice what an Ugly Stick does, but it has a lifetime warranty.
