Default Help me choose what to start with

I've got what I wanted and got all of my questions answered!

--------------------------------

Hello everyone. I am glad to join you all and hope to become active. This is my first topic/post and many other will follow as I get my answers. I was fishing before, but I know very minimal and I would like to get a little more serious. I will be asking basic question and hope you guys will help me find my answers. I'll try to keep it as organized as possible.

Where/When/What do I fish?

- Most of the time freshwater mountain rivers (sometimes rocky and fast stream, sometimes smooth), but I've been to mountain lakes too.
- I would always use earth worms, but I would love to quite it and start fishing with lures/baits.
- I don't go for the large fish. Usually I catch approximately 10" fish in the river. The biggest fish I ever caught:

That was caught in a lake. I'd like to orient on river fishing though. Maybe later I will get a fish that I can use on bigger fish like the one on a picture above.
- I live and fish in California (what ever is close to Los Angeles). Usually in the summer, or just when ever it is a good enough weather to camp with my friends.
- What species of fish? I really don't know. What ever is there in the river and will catch on my lures. I don't go for something specific.

If there is any other info that I need to mention, just ask me. I guess I can start asking my questions now:

-------

Here is what I've already decided with:

- I am going with this spinning rod (click here)
E 21 Carrot Stix Spinning Rod
CLTX671M-S 6'7" Medium Power 2-8 lb 3/16-5/8 Moderate Fast 9" Grip

- I am going with this spinning reel (click here)
Shimano® Sonora® FB Spinning Reel
SON1000FB 110/6 Capacity 6.2:1 4+1 Bearings 7.7 lb

I really appreciate everybodies help, answers, and suggestions!

Thanks,
Ervand

First, welcome. I am fairly new to this site as well, but have been fishing and boating for many years. I think you will find this forum helpful.

Can you provide more details? You mention you usually fish in the mountains, but your rod/reel links are more focused on saltwater trolling for heavier species. (Link 1 is the spinning reel by the way.)

Specifically, where do you plan to fish, what time of year, and what species of fish? These questions will change the rod, reel and overall tackle suggestions.

I'd also add a comment in your subject line about asking for fishing tackle advice.

Good luck. You will get your answers pretty quickly.

6' light action rod with a lightweight spinning reel spooled with 6# test mono filament line.
Try worms and grubs to start and corn also works for trout in mt streams. there are many type of lures that you could try as well such as rooster tails and pheobes.
Good luck and have fun.

Being so new to the sport, you are going to want to go with a small spinning reel (much easier to deal with than casting reels) and a light or even ultra-light action rod due to where you fish. 6 lb. test monofilament line will be plenty heavy if you really only have ambition to catch 15 inch fish. I don't really suggest going with the rod you are thinking about. Stick with a classic rod (Ugly Stik is a pretty respected brand that goes for cheap) with individual eyes and a normal spinning reel (the line distance counter will in no way increase your fishing ability).

I don't own the rods that I posted at first. I just found pictures of different reels and asked questions on them. Now that I got my answers I deleted them to add new questions!

The thing is I don't own any rods at all. I would always borrow my uncle's rods and I want to get my own (one at first, maybe more later). I am not VERY new to fishing, but the way I fished was pretty primitive. I would use a rod with now reels (telescoping rod, I think that is what it is called) with a bobber, sinker, hook and a life worm. I would like to get into the reel fishing. I think it is more fun and it is a lot more flexible with how and what I want to fish I think.

New questions are in my first post. Would someone, please, answer them too?
