Question Kite Fishing FAQ's?

Alright. Im new to the whole kite fishing thing. Ive got the kite rod from star rods and an electra-mate reel for it. What I would like to know is the basics. Like:

1) What time of line do I put on the reel. It is a 4/0 penn.

2)What type of release clips are good for kingfish/etc?

3)What other accessories do people use?

Is there any good how-to articles on it? I mean I get the jest of it and if pushed I could go out tomorrow and make it work but I would like not to make the mistakes that would happen.

Thanks!

For line get some 65lb braid.

Blacks makes a 3 clip kit with the clips and swiwels you can get it from Capt. Harry's here in Miami.

Space the clips 75' apart and the kite from the first clip 150'.

Get some markers and some ceramic rings and you are good to go.

There are lots of tutorials, but taking out a guide in your area is probably the way to go at first.

I personally would go with enough dacron backing + 100 yds of 130 lb spectra to fill your kite reel (for faster reel ins) and use these kind of clips, that can also be attached to other rods if you want to fish more than one. This does away with the ceramic rings.

I also prefer the sfe kites and carry helium ballons.

On the left coast we are now hanging 2 baits (double trouble rigs) with better success than singles.

Blue marline chronicles is a good local source for more FL style kite fishing.
