Took my 15ft aluminum Duroboat “Red Drum” down into Baja about 430 miles south of TJ with my buddy Russell, who used to be the lead singer in a rock band that we played together in years ago called “HUNTER”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcW3qW3dZ9I&feature=related
We caravanned down to the campsite with my other buddy Joe “Triggerman” and his friend Gary.
We caught Yellowtail up to 40 pounds, all the grumpy Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Bonito’s, Barracuda’s, Sheephead and Sculpin you could every want from the boats, and chunky Spotfin Croakers aka Roncardors/Snorers/Ronkies, Corbina’s, Yellowfin Croakers and a Halibut while surf fishing from the beaches.
Here is a pic of the “Red Drum” at the waters edge after a morning of whacking big fish.
Russell with his first Yellowtail of the trip.
Vinnie with his first Yellowtail of the trip.
Here I am going bendo on a 27 pound Yellowtail while using my 15lb Bass rod. That was my favorite Yellowtail fight of the trip. I still can’t believe he didn’t break me off in 45 feet of water, considering all the structure in the area.
Here is a fillet from that particular Yellowtail. Sweeeet! We had some nice Sashimi from that fish. Yumyum!!
Here are a couple pics from some of the many husky Bass that we caught.
Russell with an average size Sheephead.
Around lunch time the winds would start to pick up and we’d head back to the campsite for a fish taco lunch. After lunch we’d go swimming and then do some surf fishing for big Spotfin Croakers and nice Corbina.
Joe with an average size yummy Corbina.
Joe with two Ronkies. Joe with a darker Roncardor.
Vinnie with a nice Spotty Snorer.
Joe and Vince with couple nice Spotfins.
Russell with a nice Spotfin.
My buddy Mike drove down mid-week and got in the Spotfin action.
Joe with another nice Ronkie.
Vinnie with another nice Croaker.
Mike with another tough pulling Roncardor.
Decided to bring a couple of them back to the camp to eat, and they were very tasty on the grill and in the deep fryer.
Everyone had a great time going BENDO throughout the week and we all made it home safety. I can’t wait to back down there next year. HOOK-UP!!
Nice report! That looks like some great in shore fishing! I see your reports on our local forums too! I wish I had the balls to travel in Mexico with my boat..
Where were you? I have spent 100's of days fishing in Baja mostly BOLA and Punta Chivato. I can't tell from the pictures where you were. Great job slaying the fish. I haven't been in a couple of years due to kids in sports baseball/football. Really miss the wide open yellowtail fishing.

I'd leave your Glacier Bay north of the border and get a smaller aluminum to trailer into Baja.
