I am planning on getting my dad a good pair of binoculars for his Bday. What do you guys recomend for the marine environment? Looking to spend about $200.

You can spend all kind of money on binoculars, but I have been very happy with the West marine Binocs. Good Quality, and a pretty fair price.

Default Binos

I'll third the West Marine. They periodically have the Tahitis on sale for 199.00 which is a great deal.

Agree on west marine if you want waterproof, and they always seem to be on sale. Otherwise, check out Nikon. My father has a pair and they are unreal.

Steiner is a high quality binocular if your Dad intends to use them alot. Of course, using binocs alot makes it easier to hold them still (for your brain to adjust) and he might like the higher powers.

In the meantime, I saw these on eBay and they are a lot of view for the $, IMO. Waterproof, too.

Thanks for the input! I just picked up a pair of West Marine Tonga's for over half off! They seem really awesome.

Thanks. I do worldwide business and frequently check my mail or junk box, nothing arrived. I thought that putting this link in my yesterday's message would move things forward.
As written in the first message, being in Vietnam it is complicated for me to send back and can live with the dirt on the optics, but would like to know how I fit the batteries in that. Tried once and a battery went shortcut (heating up). I guess the pin is wrongly bent. However that unit seems to have had "problems earlier" seeing the bent pin and green oxidizing in the battery lodge. But this is how I got it in the sealed box.

When I know how to fit the batteries, I will delete above message.

Regards

Pierre
