I took my little 15ft aluminum boat “Red Drum” out into the Santa Monica Bay for some Bass and Critter fishing with Gabriel “GET-EM”.
Started the day catching some Calico Bass, then I hooked a bigger drag-pulling Bass, which turned out to be my 2nd largest Sand Bass that I’ve ever caught, a fat and chunky 9 pound 14 ounces.
Also, caught quite a few Sheephead throughout the day.
Plus, four of these Triggerfish.

The highlight of the day was when we were treated to an aerial show from a big pot-bellied 8+ foot long Great White Shark that breached about 5 feet out of the water, within 50 feet of the boat. The big Shark made a huge splash and left us speechless in amazement for a couple seconds. It was so surreal that I thought I was watching the Discovery Channel. Gabriel and I were both awe struck at the power and size of the fish, glad I was in the boat and not in the water. You just never know what you might see out on the big pond. Definitely more sightings of Mr. and Mrs. GW, thanks to the kill moratorium that has been in effect for many years for these apex predators.
Ended the day catching Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Sheephead, Triggerfish, Brown Rockfish, Sculpin, Cabezon, Rubberlip Sea Perch, Buttermouth Perch, Rock Wrasse and Senoritas.
Had a great time catching a bunch of different species in the tin boat and I can’t wait to get back out on the water. HOOK-UP!!
