Default Sarasota Fishin'

Just found out that business will be taking me to Sarasota, FL beginning in September and then every few weeks through February or March. I'd like to get some fishing action in while I'm there. What's happening in the fall/winter in Sarasota/Tampa area?.

Everything..don't even bother coming up to Tampa. Lots of great artificial reefs a few miles out as well as some of the best inshore fishing you will encounter. Snook, trout, reds, grouper, mangrove and on and on...also just south is Boca Grande and that area inshore is huge with lots of good snook and reds all year round...Damn, I miss that place!!

Ringling Flats, the Middle Grounds by City Island launch ramp, Manatee River by DeSoto Memorial, Longboat Pass on an incoming tide...

Need I go on?

There's lot's going on. Just be aware that Sept and to a lesser extent Oct is the height of the hurricane season here in FL.

Inshore; Speckled Trout, Redfish, Snook and some tarpon in Sept/Oct/Nov

Offshore; Snapper, jacks, and permit off the wrecks. in Sept/Oct. In Oct, the kingfish run will pick up and the grouper will move into shallower water as it cools off.

Thanks guys. First few trips I will be flying so no boat or tackle. I'd like to get hooked up with a local captain to check things out. I'll probably trailer a boat down over Thanksgiving weekend and leave it there through the winter.
