Default Port Aransas vs. Port O'Connor

OK, I need to know how these two compare for offshore fishing in June. Our boat draws too much for the flats, so don't go there. I have fished Port Aransas once a couple of months ago. Weather was too unsettled to venture far offshore. I've heard that good rig fishing is closer to shore off Port O'Connor but that was from a guy that used to guide out of there. It would be my wife and I. Port Aransas was real convenient for leaving the boat in the water overnight. Rented a slip at the City Marina. Are overnight slips availabe in Port O'Connor? What about places to stay in both places? We plan to retire in a few years and would like to check out as many places on the coast as possible.

Thanks for the help,

Barry

Port A is Larger ..Read more costly.. Port O is quaint little costal town ... it does not get the Vacation
crowd like Port A... Port A is simply a shot out the jetty's ... Port O is a long ride across open bay to hit the gulf!!!
if you considering a place where you could both Bay and Offshore... Consider Matagorda..
acess to two bay's and quick acess to the gulf .... can get rental
right on the beach and trailer the Boat or contact the harbour and inquire about slippage there is aboat ramp with in
1.5 miles of the Gulf!!

I agree, Matagorda sounds like the place you need to be. There is great fishing out of Matagorda.

I called Matagorda and they tell me they are having problems with the channel to the Gulf. With cuts in govt. funding, it is not being dredged and is shoaling very badly. Rather than risk it, we are going to Port O'connor.

Thanks for the comments nevertheless.
