Default bait runner / live lining feature?

first thanks to all who've been putting up with my rookie questions - and sorry!

the more reading I do, the more confused I get...but I am learning too.

so, can someone please describe the bait runner / live lining feature? based on my limited understanding, it seems like something I would want so that may change my decision on the Spheros.

again, my thanks to everyone!

A baitrunner feature allows you to throw a switch and put a spinning reel into "freespool" like you would with a conventional reel.. This allows line to pay out under the control of a closed bail, which makes livelining or deadsticking baits much easier.. You can set the amount of tension on the baitrunner, which prevents overruns.. I also use my baitrunners when jigging.. I will toss out a jig, close the bail, and engage the baitrunner.. This causes the lure to fall on a taut line, which allows me to feel the bites that frequently occur on the drop.. IMO if you are only going to have have 1 spinning reel for all your needs, it should be a baitrunner as they are very versatile.

What rod would you recommend for the Shimano 6500 Baitrunner reel when fishing for Kings, Lings, Dorado and other similar Gulf of Mexico fish

Thanks in advance for your help

Shimano Trveala spinning rod.

Not just for jigging.

VERY light rods that you can catch big fish on.

I have my 3500 on a Tsunami Spin right now and am selling it to replace w/ the Trevala.
