Dad called me after lunch yesterday and said it was time to run the boat, never mind the wind.
Headed down to Fourchon to try the close in rigs for sheephead. Forecast looked grim for fishing our of a 19' boat. Drove down this morning and the wind was brisk from the start. After clearing Bell Pass it was a very steep 2-3' chop. Took it on the nose to Bay Marchand. I think we made either 10 or 12mph without getting too wet. I took a short video of the ride out, but it doesn't look bad. Trust me it was snotty for a 19' boat.
The heads are there just like we knew they would be. Fought the seas for about an hour to box 25 sheephead. Decided to go check out the area we trawl since brown shrimp season is coming up. Fished near Devil and Pearly bays. Caught quite a few undersize trout. To be honest I thought fishing the area was a waste of time. However pops was right as always. About the 3rd cast with a gulp shrimp under a popping cork I hooked into a beast. We were only in 2' of water and the 18# red really put up a tussle! It was fun trip and really felt good to be out fishing with my best bud, dad.
