Default Sportfishing in Ghana

Hi all,

I'm new here but thought I'd ask a question about sportfishing in Ghana. My family may be relocating to Ghana sometime this year and I'm hoping to continue to sportfish. I won't have a boat, but plan on taking a few rods, reels and tackle with me. I'm originaly from Nova Scotia and used to fishing lakes, rivers and from shore.

Just wondering if anyone actually does any saltwater fishing from shore and/or surfcasting in Ghana. I lived there for two years in the past, but was so busy I didn't have time to fish. I've heard that people fish at Ada where the Volta river meets the ocean and was thinking of giving it a go there from shore. I also know that there's freshwater fishing in Lake Bosumtwi. If anyone here has fished or fishes in Ghana on a regular basis I'd love to hear from them. I'd also like to know what sort of fish to expect fishing from shore and inshore and what gear recommendations others would make.

At the moment, I was planning on taking a few Shimano Exage telescopic medium action rods (they fit in the suitcase) and 3-4 reels, one which I recently purchased - Penn Sargus 8000, and a bunch of saltwater lures. If anyone knows where I can purchase SW lures in lots of 5 to 10 for decent prices please send me a message.

I've read about the Hooker boat/charter and would love to tag along with them to see how their operation works. I'd even volunteer with them just for the experience. Does anyone have their contact information?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

J

Hi J

Sorry did not read you earlier. Are you in Ghana already? Best fishing here at the moment in Takoradi, but I am located in Accra and go every weekend to Ada Foah.

The Hooker still around. Try to contact me and we could share space there. Actually, we are trying to organize a 2 day trip soon.

Regards

Not in Ghana yet. Planning for January/February. What are you catching at Ada?
