Default Costa Rica report

We fish Lake Arenial the first morning. Tough going, blowing 20-25 and rain. My 10 yr old managed to outfish me sticking with the spinnerbait. The time I spent changing baits cost me.

We flew from Arenial to Pt. Jimenez for some inshore/offshore action next. First some inshore/nearshore action. A few fish managed to hook themselves on our baits.

I had heard the the billfishing wasn't what it use to be down there, so i didn't have my hopes up to high for our billfishing trip. I had booked Capt. Tom Lyndsky on the Shamrock out of Golfito months earlier on the recommendation from Capt. Mike Hennessey. What a call. We raised 34 billfish, 2 blues and 32 sails. We hooked about 20 sail and fought 12 to the boat. I fed and fought the big blue while my boy got the little blue plus managed a half dozen sails to the boat. The capt. and crew of Shamrock are outstand bait and switch billfishermen. You will not be dissapointed if you fish with them. Some of the pics.

I invited Louis(a waiter from the Iguana Lodge) and his son to come with us. We definatly had a trip to remember. Both boys on a billfish double. Alex has the blue on and Lil Louis is battling a sail.

Now that sounds like a heck of a trip! Congrats to your son for the outstanding fishing and catching! That is quite a feat for a 10 year old. He definitely earned his bragging rights! Great pictures too!

Great trip, Looks like you guys had a great time. The boy will have a lot to talk about.

I was in Pt. Jimenez last May and we got some nice roosters to 55lb and a nice cubera besides other stuff.
Leaving the 21st for another trip to our house in Playa Naranjo

That's awesome! Can't wait to take my kids offshore for the first time and I think Costa Rica is the perfect place.

Thanks fellas. Alex isn't reelly the bragging type, just another day fishing with dad to him. Adam, we stayed in Pt. Jimenez @ the Iguana lodge on the Osa penninsula. It's very undeveloped and the roads suck. The upside is: No keys, no locks, no AC, no TV, no golf course, and no problems. It was a fabulous experience for all of us. Tree climbing, waterfall repelling, frog hunting, hiking through the rainforest, ziplining through the canopy, and learning to surf was just the icing on the mad fishing cake. My kids now have no interest in disneyland, they want to go back to Costa Rica. Me too. From everything I heard from the guys I met @ the SJ airport that just came back from a tournament @ Lo$ Suenos, you won't find me there. Tough fishing they said. long runs and not many fish. All our billfish were caught within 11 miles of Matapalo rock. All of our inshore fish were caught right around the rock. If you don't have your boat there, charter the Shamrock. Tom's on fire right now and he's got me burning to go back down. He HOOKED 20 marlin yesterday, 12 to the boat. reelly. Inshore go with a fun tico captian and bring extra circle hooks. Truely the best family vacation we've ever been on. Looking forward to the next one!
