We are planning a family vacation and Myrtle Beach, SC or somewhere in the Outer Banks, NC are both on the list as potential destinations. We will most likely be traveling in April
Any suggestions on the following:
Fishing - Head Boat, Charter Companies (mixed charters?), etc
Fishing from the beach
Places to stay (Condo vs Hotel?)
things to do for kids (age 2 and 4)

I've been staying in Avon NC for years. 10 min drive from hatteras light, supermarket within walking distance of most houses. Decent fishing pier, and Hatteras Harbor and Teach's Lair are close if you want to go offshore. Rent a nice house for like $500 a week that time of year. www.hatterasrealty.com Plenty for the kids to do. They should have a pool open by then and there's a spa for the wife.
Well, the weather and water will be a lot warmer in Myrtle Beach in April than on the Outer Banks. They are really two completely different beach experiences. Myrtle is built up with lots to do, a focus on golf, and some areas that one might describe as honky-tonk. OBX is quiet, relatively out of the way, and relaxing...moreso as you go further south. With young kids, you might want to consider staying up around Nags Head or Manteo so you have access to more activities like the NC Aquarium, Festival Park, etc. Cool water makes for slow Spring warm up on the Outer Banks, so you may get a coulpe of cool days but probably some beautiful nice days too. May be cool for true beach days.
On of the key reasons we were thinking of SC over NC was for the warmer weather. I checked www.hatterasrealty.com and found some great properties in the 600's that are right on the water and can most likely try fishing right off the bulkhead. (Not sure what i'd catch but you never know).
if we end up in SC we will most likely stat at one of the condo properties.

If you want to concentrate on fishing there is no comparison between the two. Offshore out of Oregon Inlet, yft will hopefully be slowly showing up and there will be shots at blue marlin. Dolphin should be showing up as well. Inshore not quite as much going on.
There is still plenty to do in Nags Head but not as much as Myrtle and properties will be cheaper.

Myrtle Beach is more like every other NJ beach - long stretches of flat beaches......
Outerbanks beaches have charactor, dunes , drive on more like Long Beach Island.......with much better fishing
