Default Trailering to Florida, Sailfish Marina

I was looking for some advise.
I'm planning on trailer my boat to the Sailfish marina and staying for the week in April.
I have stayed there before but this time the wife and kids are going to be with me. They are 9, 5 and 2 yoa. I now they have a small pool and their rooms are ok.
The 9 and 5 year old would be fishing with me most of the time and the wife and baby would be staying behind.
I was interested if anyone had any other places (marina/resort) in mind other that the Sailfish Marina.
Cost is a factor, a couple places that I found online are pretty expensive.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank, Andrew

Is Palm Beach your preferred destination, or are you flexible to the point where you're willing to stay in SE FL? As you know, Palm Beach isn't exactly "low rent" On top of that, Sailfish Marina is in a great location and right in the pricey part of the neighborhood.

Do you need the hotel to have an "on site" marina?

PB, Thanks for responding.
I and open to any suggestions. I would prefer the marina on location but close by would work. I'm thinking about my wife and my youngest two boys, thinking they will be at the resort most of the time. If she's happy then so am I. Took me awhile to learn that. I'm more interested in the fishing. Thanks for any help!

Andy,

Okay then. As you know from previous experience, the PB area is pricey. Not sure what your budget is, what size boat you have or what type of fishing you want to do: inshore/nearshore/offshore or what fish you want to target.

If you want to stay in the PB area, you can keep your boat at Lake Park Marina and stay somewhere else depending on your budget. The marina's website is: http://www.lakeparkmarina.com

The other choice I'd recommend is Pirates Cove Resort in Stuart, which is north of PB, off I-95. From South to North it goes: Palm Beach, Jupiter, Stuart, Ft. Pierce, ... http://www.piratescoveresort.com . I haven't checked Sailfish Marina's rates, but I'll guess that Pirates Cove is less. They also have storage for your boat trailer on site -- Sailfish does not. There is a public boat ramp at Sandspirit Park just down the road from PC and Finest Kind Tackle Shop is between Sandspirit Park and PC -- a big plus. Spend few $$ at Finest Kind (good folks) and you'll pick up some good tips -- but that is true for almost any private tackle shop (that's why I use them and not BPS/SA/....

Stuart, FL is not as high-brow as PB, but more of a true Florida feel. If the weather offshore is snotty in Stuart, it's snotty in PB. Stuart has a huge inshore fishery that PB doesn't have. That's not to say PB/Lake Worth doesn't, but Stuart's is better. The offshore fishing is somewhat the same, but you have a longer run to Gulf Stream out of Stuart.

Some chart recommendations:

Palm Beach. Hot Spots Chart N213

Stuart. Hot Spots Chart N215

Hope that helped. Shoot me an email if you have other questions -- detailed posting on the web is painful...

If you're are willing to go about 45 min north than Stuart has some nice places. Try either Pirates Loft (considered a resort, might be pricey) or Hutchinson Island Marriot. I've spent a weekend at the Marriot the last 3 years with my family and its nice. They have a nice pool, a Tiki Bar, and Kids activities. It is both bay/riverside and oceanside with a nice beach. Its about a 10 min. boat ride to the St. Lucie inlet and the fishing is just as good if not better than P.B. The only drawbacks are not as much touristy things to do as P.B. and it can be a long walk from your room to your boat. There are several ramps within 5 miles and they let you store your trailer in the lot. I live about 1/2 way between P.B. and Stuart and can't really think of much else.

Thanks so much for your help. I'm looking into pirates cove. and the others tomorrow.
I plan on fishing outside if the weather permits it. I'm pulling a 23 Reg.
I'll be happy with a wet line right now. The boat came out of the water last week and its pretty depressing. I need to plan something to look forward to.
Thanks Andrew

Nothing to do with your exact thread BUT I am in Jacksonville. I know what trailering a boat long distance can be like. While you are heading through the N Florida area, if you run into problems (you know how trailers can be!), call me if you need help and I will see what I can do. Thats a long ways to travel with the wife and kids, boat in tow. Be careful! My cell is 904-252-5036, my work can be hectic but I will help in anyway I can. Nothing can ruin a vacation quicker than being broke down on the side of the road away from home! You cant buy enough Pam Beach jewelry to make her forgive you!

Also, if you head further south one day, head to Los Olsa (spelling?) in Ft Lauderdale for some shopping and good eats, the wife will thank you (so will American Express)

I have a condo on singer island, so I'm VERY familar with Sailfish, and quite frankly based on your description of your needs thats the best bang for the buck, rooms are reasonable and so is dockage, they will not let you store the trailer on premise, so you'll have to figure that one out, the other alternative is to get a room on Federal Highway, Hampton Inn by Donald Ross or others and trailer to lake Park or Burt Reynolds ramps.

Sailfish is still a great place to walk around at night.

Also the wx in April may be a bit tricky so you could always picnic over at Peanut Island with the family.

Thanks so very much for all your help. I ended up booking Sailfish. It looks like its the best bang all around.
Richard Thanks for your offer. I will call you. I knew when I started planning this trip I would last about 2 minutes in the truck with the wife and the kids. I booked them on Spirit air today, they had a buy one get one free sale.
I got some time to get everything including the trailer in tip top shape.
Any other advise is appreciated.
Andrew

You've made a good choice. Sailfish is very nice, very convenient and as Schmaltz says, nice in the evenings. It is a little touristy. Suggest you stop by Pirates Cove in Port Salerno (Stuart) on your way down or back. Take an hour and check it out before your next trip down. You might like it. Slower paced than PB but pretty fishy and they have a nice pool area for the non-fish folks.

I am at PGA Marina in Palm Beach Gardens (7 miles from Sailfish) and am at Sailfish about 2x a week. I even get a room there for me my wife and 3 yr old 1-3x a year becasue we love it so much! Cant beat being about 500 yrds from the inlet! Go fish early, come in for Brunch...go back out, then to Peanut for the freek show! Next to my Marina there is a cool playground you ca get to by boat the kids would love then go dock at WaterWay for a Rum Punch! Also Seasons 52 is right there and has plenty of dock space. PM if I can be of any help in planning or if you need some fun stuff to do with the kids. Oh and let me know if you need to know what room to get as there are 3 types.
