Los Suenos Reports - The Hull Truth

Well we had a blast but sailfish numbers were way down from our trip last April. There were definitely more Marlin around but we didn't see any. We fished 3 days and got 3-5 sailfish bites a day and many big dorado. The last day we were definitely outfished by the charter boats (the 40 footers) and it was clear the fish were a bit boat shy (we were on a 55 and several 60 foot plus boats had the same results). We saw PLENTY of fish - tailers and freejumpers all over but just could not get them to bite. The amount of boats fishing were WAY down, and the place was quiet for their "high season". All in all a great trip but I will be curious to see if our results were indicative of anything or just some bad luck....

I think fishing is down world wide because of the econ. no matter your income. As for the fising it has been overall great. Many slams and multiple marlin days. But your right the sailfishing has been wierd. Down where we are we had double digit days in Dec. and it has steadly gotten less. Know we average 3-6 shots a day. We should be going in the other direction this time of year. But, who knows, after the next moon it could pick up. afterall it is fishing. Last year we couldn't find a dorado this year the crew was pulling the lines away from 20lbers because they were a nusiance! Go figure!

Yes I do think the full moon on saturday definitely had something to do with the sailfish being lazy... There were definitely boats putting up good numbers on marlin but we couldnt get it done. I gotta say, piss on a plate calm waters is the best and I want to go back!

Gotta love those calm waters! 3/4 of the year where we are in Golfito it is less than 1-3. In NJ where I live any more your lucky to get 1-3' 4-5 times a season anymore. Pura Vida!

I'm glad to hear you were here for a visit recently. What boat(s) did you fish on? The bite in general has been pretty good here over the last 6 weeks, and getting better. Of course it is off some days, but overall the fishing is improving by the week as we slide into our Peak fishing season.

We hade several clients here on our complete packages, that fished aboard our X-Treme Billfish Team boat, the Bethina, and did very well each day with multiple large Sailfish, and Marlin Catch &Releases, countless giant Mahi's and some Yellowfin Tuna. Of course Capt. Glen runs further and faster than most, and is a serious fish hunter which affords our guests the opportunity to cover more territory and often return back to the Marina as the High Hook boat and crew. That boat raises a lot of fish as well!

I am certain that the US economic situation will result in less visitors this year, but "Busy Season" typically does'nt kick in here until the weekend of the 1st Los Suenos Tournament, which is January 21-24 this year. We'll see what happens as far as how busy Jaco and Los Suenos are after that, which will certainly be a strong indicator as to how the rest of season will turn out.
