Default Costa Rica fishing early season report

Well with our season just getting underway, fishing is already better than last season. The effects of La Nina are long gone. The sails are starting to move in and there are plenty of marlin, tuna and dorado around. Last weekend we landed one blue and lost a black along with a handful of sails and all the dorado you could ever want.

This week started off in similar fashion.....The first day with our a group from NY started off pretty well. We went 3 for 5 on sails, saw a marlin which tried to eat one of our dorado off the line. The crew ended up landing 3 really nice dorado before for heading back early with a mechanical problem. Top hook for the day was 7 for 20 on sails. Day two started off with a lot of life including free jumpers and pilot whales. We ended the day going 4 for 6 on sails. Landing 2 tuna in the 40 lbs+ range and 2 more nice dorado. Day three, the crew wanted to focus more on the tuna. We managed to get 10 nice tuna losing several others, 3 big dorado and going 1 for 2 on sails.

All in all, not bad for the beginning of the season here. We should start to see better consitancy with the sails and greater numbers in the next two to three weeks. The marlin should stay around for another month or two. Inshore fishing for roosters and pargo is pretty consitant.

The fishing is great in Quepos as well.
10 sailfsih were raised on each of our trips Dec. 18 and Dec. 22.
We are also still catching big dorado.

I can't wait to see what January brings.

Just curious, I've been working with Enrico Capozzi and Scotty Jones for the past few years, fishing a little to the north. We are taking this season off, coming up with the master plan!!
