Default Side Planer Boards for Mojo Rigs for Stripers

On a recent trip to VA Beach for stripers, I noticed several boats that were towing what looked like 5 gallon red plastic gasoline tanks. On recent inquiry, I was told that these were planer boards to keep the rigs off to the side of the boat. Makes good sense as the more lures in the water and the less tangles, the better. I think these planer boards were, however, homemade.

Is there any decent planer board out there that can support the drag of a 36-48 oz. Mojo rig or an umbrella rig trolling at about 2-4 mph ??

Thanks, websites would be helpful

Check out the Amish Outfitters website link here. Then call Capt Frank Kittrick - tell him Steve Carlson from South Shore Marine referred you. Tell him what / where you are looking to do and have him build you a set of the AZAC plastic boards. Tell him you want bigger ones. The ones on his website are what the guys that fish the Great Lakes use but he has built some bigger ones for some of the striper guys and they pull great.

Here is an image of a typical set of Planer Boards:

I personally have pulled six 12-18 oz tandems on one planer board. These boards pull really hard.

These boards are proven over many years of use in the Chesapeake Bay.

We were pulling those boards from All Tackle. They are guaranteed to pull well. You wont find a better planer board for big water. (crappy ones flip in a chop and dont pull hard enough to snap the release clips or break the rubber bands) We only had 5 off of each side and could have run a few more lines that day. We ran tandems one side and singles the other. If you get a set, dont waste your time or money with another set. Order those ones from All Tackle. They are the absolute best out there
