Default Fishing out of Government Cut Miami

I'm very new to fishing and have tried a couple of times going out of government cut to catch something.
But it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Does anyone have some tips that you can give me?
Anything will be welcome.
Just trying to learn and enjoy myself out there.

Your best bet is to go to the Florida Sportsman Magazine website/forum at Floridasportsman.com and go to the forum link at the top of the homepage.

They have regional forums. You will want to go to the South - General Info Forum. Register and post your question. Explain what you are trying to do. All too often folks post vague questions like yours and then wonder why no one replies.

BTW. What are you trying to do? What fish are you trying to catch?

Livebait Sailfish? Drift for swordfish at night? Troll for Marlin and Wahoo? Tarpon? Bottomfish? Light tackle for mackerel? Sharks?

You should also visit Capt Harry's Tackle Shop (or some local tackle shop) and ask them for some tips & recommendations -- then buy the stuff there

Frankly, a great option is to hire a captain to take you out on your boat (it'll cost less than using his boat). Most tackle shops will be able to give you a referral to captains who do this. When you talk to the captain, be honest with what you want to do. Don't expect him to give you GPS # to honey holes unless that's part of the deal. Usually that involves extra $$.

Thanks Prop Blast.

I'll do that. As far as you questions go.
It's definitely going to be offshore fishing, but I want to start small (No marlin or Sailfish) untill I feel that I'm ready.
Don't want to make any mistakes with beautiful animals like that.
So yeah, start maybe with some Marlin, Snappers, grouper etc.
The boat comes with everything so pretty much I'm open for anything. No kite fishing yet.
So trolling, bottom fishing..drifting etc..

Attend the seminars put on by many of the fishing clubs, tackle stores, and the IGFA. Join a club - There's a lot of them in South Florida. Do like Tom (Prop Blast) suggests, hire a guide to go on your boat. One thing you have to do is make up your mind what kind of fishing you want to learn. You can't just say, I want to learn to fish. As you can see from the responses, there's too many variables.

I would suggest a couple of things to you. Sounds like you are new to the area or new to offshore fishing. I do like you boat as I have one just like it only it is black.

1. Go to the Tightlines Publications Inc web site and look for a chart of your area. In their charts they show all the reefs wrecks, bottom structure etc. with all the GPS locations. You can also buy nautical maps from Hook n Line with the same info. Start out fishing structure and get a feel for catching fish. Graduate to trolling later. You can also buy a Navionics chip for you GPS which will show you bottom structure in your area.

2. As mentioned above do a couple guided tours with an experience captain. Even though you have a boat it is well worth the investment. It is possible to even find captains that will go out on you boat to teach you.

Finding the structure is key and having the right baits and rigs is just as key. An experienced fisherman can teach you this.
