Default Porbeagle sharkin?

What is the best method for catching this type of Shark? I have heard to use the same method I use for Blue/Thresher/Mako....Has anyone found a best method? I know most a hooked while ground fishing and end up spooling the angler. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Default RE: Porbeagle sharkin?

I did some research on this shark as I was thinking of trying for them down here in RI early in the season. The best I could find out is that they are a cold water shark 30-60 degrees seems best. You have a much better chance up in Maine that I do here in RI.

I had a conversation with the late Frank Mundus on Porbeagle fishing off RI/Montauk. He said he used to get them in early May in the deeper water in our area when the WT was in the 50's. They was no special method, just the normal chumming method.

I think you may have a better shot a little later in the season as the WT cools. They were reports of Porbeagles being caught on longlines in Dec/Jan. off the cape.

Good Luck,
VC
